LSU Professor Wins IBM Faculty Award
04/09/2012 11:21 AM

BATON ROUGE – Xin Li, assistant professor of the LSU Department of
Electrical & Computer Engineering and Center for Computation &
Technology, or CCT, was one of 24 award recipients to receive the IBM
faculty award in the fourth quarter of 2011. Li received the maximum
award amount of $40,000.

The IBM Faculty Award is a highly competitive international program
that intends to foster collaboration between researchers at leading
universities worldwide and those in IBM research, development and
service organizations, as well as to promote courseware and curriculum
innovation to stimulate growth in disciplines and geographies that are
strategic to IBM.

Li received the award based on his research of geometric information
analysis and processing and its application on computational medicine.
Li’s research group is currently developing a computational framework
to model the respiratory motion of a tumor and surrounding organs,
which could guide the automatic offline planning and intelligent
online management of lung radiotherapy.

“I am delighted to work with our excellent collaborators and graduate
research assistants on this exciting problem,” said Li. “I have
learned so much from them. This award honors their hard work. The
funds will be used to support the continuation of this research.”
