I got this in my inbox and thought I'd pass it along:

I was looking up LST's for some reason and I remembered that I worked
with an MPA on the LaMoure County, a warrant officer, maybe an LDO ...
Sonny Pruitt. I remember we had a main engine oil contamination
problem. I remember Sonny's being under some stress. I remember
helping to absolve him. I remember he was a great guy and hope he
made his time and retired. Would love to know.

Funny.  When I looked at the name I thought "wasn't he the MPA? ".   Then I read your email.

yes, I know Sonny Pruitt. He retired a few years before me and he was also one of the guest speakers at my retirement 2 years ago. I went through 5 years of hell on that DAMN ship along with Sonny. He was certainly my greatest mentor and in many ways more like a father to me, and the reason I succeeded as well as I did in the Navy. I have his email and home address. Contact me by my home email address and I will hook you up.

Was anyone on the old girl for the Med float in 1980 when one the crew
jumped overboard half way to Spain? Story we jar heads got was he tied a
bunch of may wests together and got pick up by a fishing boat.

The guy was an engineman, can't remember his name. I thought it was Greece.

Wesley J. Hunter, ET Had lost his brother a year earlier while on a med cruise.  He was denied leave.  WJH didn't want to give anyone that much control over his actions again.
Hunter slipped into the water just after dark with one CO2 inflatable life vest, which leaked.  He was picked up 9 hours later while standing in 5 feet of water by a couple of guys fishing and taken to a base at Cherry Point NC.
Hunter was returned to the ship 10 days later to face some serious charges and received 1 year hard labor.
WJH was a shipmate and friend, although I have not seen him in 30 years I would not be surprised to see him outside my window now

Wow never heard that side of it. Just remember the Master of arms searching the entire ship including our empty 500 gallon water buffalos.
