Dear Colleague: ETS Research & Development is pleased to provide you with information about the 2012–2013 Educational Testing Service (ETS) Fellowship and Internship Programs in Research & Development. The goal of the ETS R&D Fellowship and Internship programs is to promote quality and distinction in educational measurement and related fields through support of significant research by early-career scientists and graduate students and exposure to methodologies within the ETS environment. These programs provide opportunities for talented scholars and students from diverse backgrounds — especially traditionally underrepresented groups such as African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, and American Indians — to pursue scientific research under the guidance of ETS senior scientists and psychometricians. These programs encourage research in areas such as:
The ETS Fellowship and Internship programs (PDF) seek applicants who either hold a doctoral degree or who are enrolled in a doctoral program in one of the fields mentioned above and who are interested in research opportunities. We would like your help in getting this information out to your colleagues and your very best graduate students and alumni. We encourage you and your colleagues to identify strong candidates and ask them to apply. ETS is seeking graduate students for the summer internship program in research. The program focuses on major research activities that will occur in 2012. Interns participate in areas that reflect the growing role of educational measurement and its underlying theory and technologies. Selected interns conduct research under the guidance of ETS mentors in Princeton, N.J. Graduate students who are currently enrolled in a full-time doctoral program in one of the areas listed above and who have completed a minimum of two years of coursework toward their Ph.D. or Ed.D. prior to the program start date are eligible to apply. The Harold Gulliksen Psychometric Research Fellowship Program seeks graduate students who have completed their doctoral coursework and are at the dissertation stage of their program, working on a dissertation related to statistics, psychometrics, educational/psychological measurement or quantitative methods. Selected fellows study at their universities and carry out research under the supervision of an academic mentor and in consultation with an ETS scientist. The goal of this program is to increase the number of well-trained scientists in educational measurement, psychometrics, and statistics. The postdoctoral fellowship programs seek individuals who hold a doctorate in one of the disciplines listed above and will provide talented scholars an opportunity to conduct research under the mentorship of ETS senior researchers and scientists. Selected fellows work on ETS research projects and conduct their proposed independent research that is relevant to ETS's goals. ETS administers two postdoctoral programs — the ETS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, which supports recent doctoral degree recipients (within the last three years), and the Sylvia Taylor Johnson Fellowship in Educational Measurement, which supports those who have received their doctoral degrees within the last 10 years. ETS is particularly interested in receiving applications for the Sylvia Taylor Johnson Fellowship from members of groups typically underrepresented in the field of educational measurement/psychometrics. Please take a moment to consider which qualified individuals you believe would benefit from this opportunity and help ETS achieve the program's goals. Please share this information with your colleagues and post the same at your institution. The application process will open on November 1, 2011. At that time, information and application instructions will be posted on the ETS website at http://www.ets.org/research/fellowships The application deadline(s) are as follows: *Summer internship program — February 1, 2012 If you have any questions about the programs, please email internfe...@ets.org. Thank you in advance for your assistance and support of these programs. Sincerely, Educational Testing Service ADVERTISEMENT Copyright © 2011 by Educational Testing Service. All rights reserved.
