Hello everyone, I am doing impact modelling on a layered composite plate. I am using MAT_59 for modelling a composite and blunt steel projectile for impact (MAT_15). The boundaries are fixed from all sides.
The problem I am encountering is in the contact and the hourglass, probably. While the plate is getting damaged and delamination is happening, the middle layers are not making proper contact after the penetration. I have used eroding surface to surface between the projectile and the plate (part id(projectile as master) to part set id(20 layers of the plate as slave)). Automatic surface-to-surface contact has been given to model the interaction of the plates and delamination. I have also introduced Automatic single surface contact for all the layers.
Hourglass formulation is set to 3 (Viscous form with exact volume integration) with Qm = 0.12. I also checked the hourglass energy after the simulation, and it is coming out to be 0.5.
How can I resolve this issue? Is the hourglass factor playing a major role here?
