Hello,
I am running a 2D axisymmetric ALE multi-material simulation in LS-DYNA.

In d3plot, I can see parts like:

  • air
  • disc
  • explosive
  • airfluid(ale)
  • discfluid(ale)
  • explosivefluid(ale)

I want to extract and track (velocity and position of noeuds)   the whole material region   the metallic material " disc " after it turned into something resembling lava.

Since this is an ALE model, I cannot directly track material nodes like in a Lagrangian simulation.

What is the best way to:

  • isolate this region,
  • export its useful data from LS-PrePost,
  • or prepare the model in the keyword file so that post-processing becomes easier?

My goal is to later process the results in MATLAB and make it automatically for different geometry so I can't select it by id noeuds because it will be different from geometry to another one .
Any recommended workflow?

To track particle motion in an ALE material typically one uses *Database_Tracer with the output frequency controlled by *Database_TRHIST. The resulting ASCII file (TRHIST) could be postprocess via an algorithm (MATLAB).                          --len
