Dear all,

I am trying to use *MAT_260A material card. Can anyone please help me find the reason for the following errors? All the Part IDs, sec IDs and MAT IDs are properly defined as  other material card like *MAT_36, *MAT_122, *MAT_133 are running smoothly with the same model. Please help. Thanks in advance.

It would be helpful if you include the input lines for MAT_260A especially Lines 473 & 475                              --len

The Card 3 parameter AOPT should be input as an integer,

i.e. 3 rather than 3.0 – see the User Manual Volume II

When you correct that error, the other error at Line 475 should go away,

Thank you Len. I have edited the .k File in word pad and it worked. Can you please tell me what could be the possible reasons for these values of AOPT ( 2.0 and 3.0) ? I am using LS-PrePost  version 4.6. One thing, I also noticed that element material direction is absent for MAT_260A. The element material direction was there for other material cards. Thank you.

With best regards
Bhupesh

I am not sure why LSPP does not output integer values for AOPT for MAT_260A. It could just be an oversight by the developers, or a change in the way AOPT was input for older material models requiring material directions, e.g. *MAT_022

I know nothing about MAT_260A – I just now common input errors.

Dear Len,

There is a mixture of data type I and F for the AOPT parameter in the LS-DYNA User’s Manual.

Most use F data type; however, there is a few I data types used.

A quick glance (could have missed some) of the different data types used for selected data materials.

Dear James and Len,

Thank you for sharing the data types used with AOPT for the different material models. It will certainly help all of us. I want to ask one more question regarding the use of MAT_260 A. Sometimes I get a warning message plasticity algorithm did not converge for MAT_260A.  I tried changing the time step still I am getting the same warning message. What could be the possible reason for the same? If you can please share your thoughts on this it will be great.  Thank you.

Warm regards
Bhupesh

Apparently this constitutive model uses an iterative technique, e.g. Newton-Raphson, to solve for some needed quantity, e.g. plastic strain increment; this happens with the Johnson-Cook model MAT015.

In the case of MAT015, if the strain increment is too large, the iteration scheme exceeds the internally fixed number of iteration before converging to the internally set tolerance. The only way to decrease the strain increment is to use a smaller time step.

As I said before, I know nothing about MAT_260A, only common error messages.
