Hello All,
I am trying to implement a 1D to 3D blast load mapping inside a blast tube. Attached are the input files without the meshes. I know the Boundary Non reflecting is not appropriate for air but I'll fix that later.image_000.png
I have concerns.
1. pressure map seems to be discontinuous in 3D, see figure
2. the timestep in the 3D run is 3.01E-25 which is ridiculously small.
3. I used the *INITIAL_ALE_MAPPING keyword. *INITIAL_VOLUME_FRACTION_GEOMETRY put the pressure in the right place and time but I have no idea if that is correct. Perhaps *ALE_MAPPING would be a more appropriate keyword or indeed *BOUNDARY_ALE_MAPPING. I am not sure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think your modeling using *INITIAL_ALE_MAPPING is correct.

The apparent discontinuous pressure is because the pressure fringe levels are only displaying the maximum pressure at the blast wave front. If you make the min and max pressure fringes closer together you should see other pressure fringes inside the spherical blast.

I have no idea why the 3D time step is so small.                             --len
