In Module 3 of the LRS Maintenance Planning and Scheduling (MPS) Course there are three activities.
1) Collect Together All Necessary Documents: you need to provide a full list of document types needed in a maintenance planning system. Be sure to cover engineering, statutory, design, maintenance, corporate standards, etc. documents.
2) Apply Helpful Stores Management Practices: you need to provide a flow diagram of your purchasing and stores management process for maintenance purchases. Secondly, suggest a two or three ways to improve that process.
3) Identify Missing Maintenance Planning Support Systems: you need to do an audit of your existing maintenance planning system components/elements and gauge how close to being complete and useful each element is. Suggest how you would improve each of the elements that got not so good results.
You can do Activity 1 using screen dumps from various appropriate parts of your existing system (if you have a MPS system). Plus write additional text to explain what other documents should be included in a maintenance planning system if you do not yet have them. The article in the course book called 'Data capture for maintenance' is a useful reference.
For Activity 2 there needs to be a complete and thorough flow diagram of the supply/stores process. Be sure to make practical and useful suggestions to improve the existing process.
In Activity 3 develop a table listing all the elements/components of a world class maintenance planning system and gauge your existing system against world best practices. Where you find elements with short-falls and poor rating, make suggestions of how to bridge the gap.
