For the Module 2 assignment you need to develop a detailed flow
diagram of all the process steps that a Maintenance Planner is
responsible for when planning a job.

The question requires you to develop a standardised planning process
for creating maintenance work orders, including identifying all
necessary forms, screens, meetings, documents, purchase orders, etc.
that are needed in such a process. You need to develop a detailed
planning process that a planner will follow, so that when they do
follow the complete process properly they have produced a full and
complete job pack.

Imagine that you are doing every single step and activity to plan and
totally prepare for an important maintenance job which must be done
right-first-time; what is the exact process, step-by-step, that you
would need to follow in your company to do that.

A standardised process is a process that everyone follows—it is the
one and only way to do a job. If you want to get rid of variation and
produce repeatable outcomes you must have a standardised way to do a
thing—that applies to maintenance planners and maintenance planning as
well.

For the assignment you need to show people how a maintenance planner
actually goes about planning jobs—what are the step-by-step actions
they personally need to do as a planner, or are responsible to ensure
get done, to go from a work request to a fully planned job ready for
scheduling.

You can tackle the assignment by expanding on the 20 step process flow
shown on Screen 16 and including the details noted on Screens 22
through to 26. Plus include whatever else you deem necessary to plan
a work order so it can be done right-first-time by Operations,
Maintenance, Sub-contractors, Suppliers and the eventual Maintainer in
your company.

Try fit the whole process on an A3 sheet of paper. Developing the
flowchart yourself is important: doing the chart will help you to
deeply understand the maintenance planning process, and its many
interactions and complexities, very clearly.

Keep the written planning procedure document short and concise yet
containing the necessary details that a planner needs to understand in
each step of the process so they create the complete work pack.

To help you minimise the time you spend on the assignment when
creating written documents you can grab wording from planning process
documents you may have in your company, and/or you can use the wording
from the maintenance documents available in the course materials that
you can buy from the online store and download.

This is the only assignment in the module, which is why it is a longer
assignment than modules with multiple assignments. There is also a
similar assignment to be done for maintenance scheduling later in the
course.

If you have any questions please ask.
