The last assignment in Module 3 is really an audit on your planning
information infrastructure. If you look at the workbook article ‘Data
Capture for Maintenance’ and at the Module slides you will see that a
planner needs much and varied information readily available, e.g.
equipment details, purchasing details, safety details, vendor details,
various manuals, design drawings, and so on.

Your planning system will need to provide that information. If you do
not have all the information you need then you cannot properly plan
and prepare a job. If the planning work is not done properly because
important details and information for the maintenance job are missing,
then the job has a greatly increased chance of going wrong and your
machines fail again too soon after being repaired.

For the assignment you need to create a list of all the information
your planning system needs to contain so you can do a really thorough
and complete maintenance planning job.

I suggested in the Assignment 3 slide that you create a three column
table.

The left hand column can be titled: Information Management
Requirements for World Class Maintenance Planning

The middle column title: What I have Available to Work With (rated by
using 'Excellent, Adequate, Unsatisfactory, or Not Available')

The third column title: Plan of How to Address Shortfalls

You will need to populate the left hand column with what a world class
maintenance planning information system should contain. You can
review the slides and the ‘Data Capture for Maintenance’ article to
select what to put into the column. Do not stop with what is only
listed in the Module. If you know other information requirements to
be included in a world class maintenance planning system please also
list them.

In the middle column you rate your current information management
system using the ratings 'Excellent, Adequate, Unsatisfactory, or Not
Available'. In the last column you develop a plan to address and
improve anything that is Unsatisfactory, or Not Available.

What you are actually doing in the assignment is auditing and
comparing what information is available in your company with what is
the best practice requirements. If your information system is not yet
as good as it needs to be then you need to improve it.

If you have further questions on the assignment please ask me.

Best regards,
