Hi,

I have a Kalahari Tdi (2006 model) with a huge electrical problem. Trying to isolate the problem I tracked it down to the Immobilisation Unit. On older Defenders it was called the Immobilisation Spider which was first installed in the battery box but moved to above the fuse box or behind the instrument cluster on later models due to corrosion in the battery box.

In the latest Defender electrical manual to my disposal (models 2002 and later) it is called ECU - Engine Immobilsation D139, but does not indicate where it is installed. Even after a long search on the internet I could not locate its position. Seems like a security secret. I have stripped most of the dash where I can see wires...... Does anybody know where it is installed and what it looks like?

Regards,

Franscois

The old spider interrupted a few circuits IIRC. On petrol engined vehicles it was ignition, starter and fuel pump, I think. On Tdi probably fuel cutoff rather than ignition.

It was basically a small box containing one single and one dual relay.

You can bypass the three interrupted circuits externally.

Thanks Bertus,

It looks like the spider/immobilisation unit is drawing excessive current. I do not want to bypass is, I need to find it to disconnect it from the wiring harness.

Do you know where I can look for it? I have stripped the dash and instriluments completely. Can't find it.

Regards,
Franscois.
