Q? 2 U all
I have a problem with my traction control, it reacts poorly to a wheel in the air. In fact it hardly copes with loss of traction at all on a slippery gravel climb. It appears to be far too slow to react to wheel spin.
Does anybody know if the traction control on a Disco TD5 would degrade relative to the brake pad wear. In other words, worn down pads would degrade the reaction time for the TC to respond to a spinning wheel in the air. I would think not, as the sensor to disc distance should be a constant, irrespective of brake pad wear. Am I wrong in assuming this? Why is my TC so slow to react, is there something else wrong?
Can anybody throw some light on LR traction control?
Cheers

The dust from the brake pads tends to clog up the ABS sensors that is also used to detect wheelspin and thus impact on traction control. You could solve the problem by getting yourself a brake cleaner aerosol tin – I know Makro has them. Spray the ABS sensors on your caliper clean and try them out again. Playing in mud causes the same problem.

Hi Jacob
Thanks for the advice. I had a problem a few weeks ago when the 3 lights came on because one sensor was dirty. I had it cleaned and later read in the hand book that this does happen. My feeling is that there is currently no problem with the sensors, otherwise the same 3 lights would be on again. Because a sensor works or does not work. If one of the sensors is faulty the system will show the 3 light error again.
My problem is the delay in the TC reaction time, there is lots of wheel spin. Maybe I am just heavy footed. I am waiting for the video from the weekend adventure, you can clearly see the delay compared to the Prado and the VW Tuereg. I will call you. I believe you live about 1 Km from me. We can have a beer and a video session.
cheers
