Has anyone else seen this? With the long weekends coming up it may be worth travelers taking note

Dear Ladies and Gents,

Cases of malaria have been reported in parts of three South African provinces where transmission of the disease does not usually occur, reports the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Altogether 53 cases have been reported, most from the cities of Thabazimbi and Lephalale in Limpopo, two from Swartruggens in the North West and two more in Doornpoort in Pretoria.

The South African National Institute for Communicable Diseases is investigating the cases and working to control the spread of the disease.

The CDC has warned travellers to the western Waterberg district of Limpopo to take prescription medicine to help prevent malaria. Medication is not needed when travelling to the North West and Gauteng. However, travellers should take normal precautions to avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellent.

Kind regards,

Leon Smith
