The BNRC (Blind Navigator Rally Club) is club that exists to allow blind people to participate in motorsport. In order to achieve this they depend on drivers to volunteer their resources, vehicle and driving skills to participate in regularity rallying. This is the ONLY form of motor sport in which blind people can legally participate.

Classic Regularity Rallying is the classic form of rallying. A safe, low cost, and exciting competitive motor sport! The idea is for a two-person crew (driver and navigator / timekeeper) to drive along a route set by the organisers on public tar roads. The crew must keep to the set speeds shown on the route schedule, which are always below the prevailing speed limit. The organisers calculate the precise time you should arrive at any point on the route if you kept to the exact set speeds. The organisers 'clock' your car, using a GPS logger (available for hire or to purchase at each event), at various points along the route and penalise you for any time early or late at those points. A typical one day rally will be about 200km long. (www.sarra.co.za for more info)

The Blind Navigators Series is a unique sport that not only encourages blind participants but puts them in a position of control. The route schedules are all in Braille. So unlike other sports for the disabled, the Blind Navigators Series uses the unique skills learned by the blind navigator to empower them, a sighted navigator could not do what they do, unless he or she first learned to read Braille.

Events are organised in different locations around Gauteng to allow as many teams as possible to navigate. There are between 7 and 10 BNRC events per year. The remaining BNRC events for year are as follows:
Sun 24-06-2018 - JAGUAR RALLY: BEDFORDVIEW (start sat Jaguar/Land Rover dealership, may include a surprise visit to a race track with a turn around the track in your own vehicle or a Jag)
Sun 22-07-2018 - AUSTIN HEALEY 100: BENONI (held at a private car museum with a remarkable collection of old bikes and cars - not normally open to the public. A must see for cars enthusiasts)
Sun 14-10-2018 - PETER ARNOT MEMORIAL: ZWARTKOPS (usually includes a couple of optional fun laps around the track)

The BNRC participates in competitions organised by SARRA (SA Regularity Rally Association). The BNRC is affiliated to SARRA which is in turn affiliated to MSA i.e all events organised by SARRA are legal motor sport events.

The BNRC is appealing to drivers to open their hearts as volunteers to participate in one or more of these competitions with a a blind navigator. There are almost always navigators who are unable to participate due to  there being too few drivers. New drivers are paired with experienced navigators to assist with your introduction to the sport. As an alternative, you are welcome to participate as a passenger with one of the participating teams to decide whether you would like to participate as a driver in a future event. you are also welcome to enter as a SARRA participant with your partner or one of your children. BNRC participants enter at a reduced cost vs SARRA entries.

BNRC costs are typically as follows (TBC as I'm not 100% sure):
R100 per team per rally (you can ask to split this with your navigator if they don't pay the full amount themselves - blind people normally have poor paying jobs)
R100 + R100 deposit for the data logger (regular participants buy their own loggers to avoid this fee)
R50 BNRC joining fee (first time entries only, may be waived)
R100 SARRA joining fee (first time entries only, may be waived)
Your petrol costs
Own food and drinks
