1. At one point in the film Bhumi says ' हम शहर से कतने दूर हैं ' when they move into a new house. (Talking ofcourse about the house and themselves).
After I don't know how long, I saw a film in which the writing is so subtle, light on its feet and doesn't burden itself with moral responsibilities too much. Its a regular story, told so effectively by nuanced writing.
everyone's criticizing this movie bc it's cliche but that's exactly what we need!!!!! more cliche cringy movies but queer. it didn't shy away from uncomfortable moments and truths that come with being queer, being desi, and queerness in desi culture. it may not be the best movie ever but it achieved what it was designed to do, and created a good foundation for queer bollywood movies which may follow. and also i cried so so much there's like tears in my eyes as i type not even joking
there's a scene towards the ending of the film that just encapsulates the meaning of the word SOLIDARITY. a moment of bittersweet emotion, shared between two friends, two members of a COMMUNITY. it stands out easily as the film's best scene and what makes badhaai do work.
Lavender marriage where two homosexuals agree to be married to have the same rights given to straights while hiding who they are makes me both happy and sad. It makes me happy because society takes everything from us but we still learn how to survive and fit in. If straights don't have your back, your fellow gays do. It makes me sad because we go in extreme hiding just so we cannot be rejected by our very own family. We'd rather lock ourselves in the closet if telling our truth means losing everything; losing everyone we love.
I love films like this that give us hope. I hope that like in this one, after some time, people will get to realize we're normal after all. We're not different. We also wanna live without being forced to do things we don't want to. That without any fear, we can love whoever we wanna love.
(PPS: Subtitled this film in English - so I am technically part of the crew, though this is my unbiased reaction to the film. I don't love / like most films I subtitle and don't rate or review those either, but this was something special. :')
