Hi

I am trying to record a thick client application installed in remote machine, But Vugen is unable to record any events

I am using Virtual user Generator 12.02.0.0 installed in Windows 7 Enterprise - Service pack 1

Thick client application is installed in Windows Server 2012 R2, This machine is access through RDS Gateway

In both RDP client version was

Shell Version 6.3.9600
Control Version 6.3.9600
Remote Desktop Protocol 8.1 supported

CASE 1 : In RDP protocol recording option, we used RDP client Startup (Use Custom Connection file) and gave the .RDP file for recording, We were able to connect to the remote machine but no events got recorded in script

CASE 2 : when tried with option 'run RDP client application', and Give Rds gateway in advanced options of mstsc we were not able to connect to remote machine
Output :
New event: wplus_gethostbyname
New event: wplus_gethostbyname
New event: wplus_gethostbyname
New event: wplus_gethostbyname
New event: wplus_gethostbyname
New event: wplus_gethostbyname_ipng
New event: wplus_gethostbyname_ipng
New event: wplus_gethostbyname_ipng
New event: wplus_gethostbyname_ipng
New event: wplus_gethostbyname
New event: wplus_connect
wplus_connect
New event: wplus_close
Close connection

CASE 3 : when we tried to connect to other local machine in same LAN, we were able to connect and record the events

Has anyone faced RDP recording issue as above ? Please help

Hi Manikandan,

Did you manage to get any resolution for your issue? If you have managed to crack it, could you please update?
Because we too are trying to record an application which is launched from an terminal session. We use an custom RDP file to launch the application. We too are facing the same issue where nothing gets recorded when we are using RDP protocol to record.

It would be of a great help if you could share your resolution with us.

Thanks and Regards,

Can you share what error you are getting during RDP recording?

Hi CRM,

When you trying to capture traffic through RDP on the teminal server/machine where the application is hosted or on the VDI desktop below are the points should be consider.,

1. DEP option need to be disable on the target machine.
2. if you using 11.52 there is an patch available for this from HP site, just download and execute the patch file on the VUGEN machine.

1.       Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

2.       Click Advanced system settings. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3.       Under Performance, click Settings.

4.       Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

5.       To turn off DEP for an individual program, select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for, and then click OK.

If the program is not in the list, click Add. Browse to the Program Files folder, find the executable file for the program (it will have an .exe file name extension), and then click Open.

6.       Click OK, click OK in the System Properties dialog box if it appears, and then click OK again. You might need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect..

let me know if you need any assistance on this i have tested with 500 RDP session successfully.

Regards
Ganesh

Hi Ganesh,

Do you have a document prepared of your "learnings/challenges" for RDP with loadrunner? If yes, would you be willing to share the same?

Yes I do have ... have you tried changing the DEP option and get admin access to that remote machine?

Thanks
Ganesh
