Vuser init and Vuser end

Hi,
Is it really necesary to always define Vuser_init and Vuser_end phases
even if you just wand to run a simple custom web request?

What would you usually define in this phases. What is their real use?

It is not neccesary to specify 

Normally
  Vuser_init to login
  Action to capturing the functionality( whatever you do)
  Vuser_end for logout
