what is the protocol that the application is communicating with the
client.
take note LoadRunner is not a functional testing tool. :)

refer here for more details:

Hi,
Load Runner is used to to do Load Testing for the application.
Unlike, functional testing tool, it will capture and simulate the
traffic between client and server. You need to identify the following
details to decide whether load runner can be used.

Type of application (web or client/server)
Protocol used to communicate between client & server (HTTP, Web
Service (SOAP & HTTP), Java-Rmi, TCP/IP sockets)
Nature of the client (Simple web interface, Applet, ajax etc)

thanks

Hello,

You requirements aren't clear. You didn't mention in detail. I can't incur much from your inputs like Java, J2EE & Swing. Please be specify like which is the client whether its j2ee )web based or its a swing application. Anyway let me know clear few things.

As per you inputs i feel u need to record using the protocol. RMI-Java. We had a similar acrhi for one of our projects . we went with RMI-java.

Thanks
Sattish.

Hi,
Sorry for not explaining clearly about my requirement..My
application is standalone application(desktop)... I want to do
performance testing like,I want to measure the timing og each modules
it takes to load and create,etc..
We have tried with QTP.. But my clients are not satisfied with QTP and
they are asking for Load Runner..
But i am not very sure, Whether i can use Load Runner for our
application. It is developed in Core Java and it is a exe, which can be
installed and downloaded, and for Back end we are using Oracle
Lite,and Swing for front end.
Please let me know If you need any more details..

If it's client based application, then LoadRunner is not the right
tool
LoadRunner is for load testing servers.

You can use LoadRunner to generate load on to the servers (depending on whichever protocol you are using)

And while the loadrunner is generating load, you can use QTP to concurrently measure GUI response time (E.g. Measuring the time between a button click and the fetched data displayed on the screen)

So under different load scenarios, your application might produce different GUI response time.

But do note that the QTP agent and the Load Generator must not be on the same machine
