Ben Bingham, inspired by the LPW idea, met with me on the 5th of
November or so and we went on a two-night walk west along the coast
from the UCSB campus and back. Ben was very enthusiastic about the
LPW, and so I got him to be the primary email contact from the LPW
listing at ic.org and also someone who could post about planned trips
here.
We've been considering walking to Quail Springs from SB or Ojai soon,
before 12/15, but that may not happen (QS is recovering from a flash
flood and a permaculture course). Spirit Pine Sanctuary on Figueroa
Mountain has been encouraging of having us visit them in the past, and
that would be another option. But it is a nice time of year to enjoy
staying along the coast.
I've been increasingly less rooted in the SB-area but still hope to
help out with this community as long as the "golden thread" leads that
way (following Sam Bull's example, http://leapnow.com/about/staff.php
).
And below is a trip/volunteer/service opportunity in Los Padres.
To get further updates from Bryan, contact him through the condor
trail website: http://condortrail.org/
Best wishes and blessings,
Colin

Subject: Alamar Trail Work Trip: November 20-21
To:
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to pass along an invitation to head into the Dick Smith
Wilderness and spend a weekend backpacking and working on a portion of
the Condor Trail. The plan is to meet early morning at Los Prietos
Ranger Station (Paradise Rd) on Saturday November 20. From there
we'll drive out along the Buckhorn Rd to Alamar Saddle. We'll park
the trucks at Alamar Saddle and backpack out to Madulce Camp. From
Madulce we'll begin our work by flagging and clearing/lopping the
Puerto Suelo Trail down to Dutch Oven Camp. Dutch Oven Camp is long
overdue for some TLC and we'll clean up the camp and spend Saturday
night at Dutch Oven. On Sunday we'll flag and clear the Alamar Trail
back up to the trucks at Alamar Saddle. We should be back in town by
late afternoon on Sunday November 21.
Total trail distance will be around 12 miles and this is very much a
rugged backcountry excursion. Let me know if you are interested in
coming on this trip and we'll share some more logistics and details
with you.
Hope you are all well and I look forward to hiking with some of you
over November 20-21.
Bryan
Dear Colin,
I have thought about you a lot this weekend, and I feel that I would be the most interested in planning a walk in the spring time.
I think it would be exciting to sit down, and really create a map of where we are going, just have fun with it, like little kids, making a treasure map!!
I would like to create the right type of energy to attract others to join us, kind of like the pide piper, who got the towns children to follow him, down into the sea!
I am not comfortable just up and going to mexico right now, it feels to rushed and stressful for me.
But I am very committed to the long term opperation of this walking - wilderness lifestyle.
Let me know how San Diego turned out for you, as well as your thoughts about a specific itinerary in the spring...
I am Walking with you right now in spirit, side by side,
Ben Bingham
Ps Your right, I will need better equiptment when we go hiking next time.
Pss I ran into Ani, (Awe-knee) she wants to walk with us. She also said that we could stay with her, whenever we are in Santa Barbara.
You are inspiring people, and making a differnce. (just wanted you to know)
