Hello SWLs
You will be amazed to know that hams also use slang with each other
(not when "on-air").

Few of them are:
1. Desi Katta : The real meaning of the this word in Hindi is a
country made weapon( single shot country pistol),but in Delhi HAM
Radio group, this means a home-made VHF 2mt rig which was developed by
none other than VU2IF om Ashutosh In Agra it was the initial 2M rig
that were operation on single frequency 145.960.
2. BVI : BIWI(pronounced as BEE WEE) in Hindi means Wife, and in HAM
radio we may have RFI(Radio Frequency Interference) But when this QRM
is caused by a wife who is just not interested in HAM radio , it will
lead to something which is known as "BVI" or BEE VEE Interference.
3. HAM Flew : It is somewhat similar to H1N1 flu,a HAM suffering from
this HAM "Flew" virus who was once active, will "FLY" off the
frequency and will not be heard on the BAND for a very long time, may
be days put together.
4. D.T : D.T or Delta Tango stands for Dinner Time or Dinner Table i.e
I am going for My Delta Tango.
5. Ohms is Money.
6. Xtal is Crystal.
7. Modulation :"Modulation" now = It is time for me to go eat!.
8. Horizontal Mode : Horizontal mode means lying down in bed or going
to sleep.
9. Mike India Charlie(MIC) : This slang was used when you are having a
Mobile QSO with a HAM and at the same time you are having some one
else also in your car, HAMs in Delhi used to say "I am Mike India
Charlie" i.e. "I am Mobile In Company" so that the other HAM will know
that you are Having someone else accompanying at that point of time.
10. RF Tuning : Well this will signify that you are enjoying "RF" i.e.
you are in "High Spirits".
11. 807 : 807 - A 'bottle of beer' in ham terminology (the beer is as
'cool' as a vintage 807 valve/tube for a ham!!!!!)
12. Pirate : pirate - Station using an existing callsign and illegally
operating on the air.
13. Chippi Tola : Its a place in city of Arga (Junk Market), Where you
can find old Military disposal, Junk, communication equipment, it
would not be very wrong if this place is called as "Heaven for HAMS"
14. Band police : Well as the name suggests, a Band Police is a HAM
who would unnecessarily discipline the other HAMs who are on the band
by quoting all do's and don't's about HAM Radio as if it is his moral
duty and he is the authority on HAM Radio.
15. Handycap : HandyCap is used to signify the maximum output power
that is possible on a hand held transceiver, meaning that your handy
has a "Cap" of 5 watt i.e. maximum power.
16. Eyeball : Face-to-face meeting, as in "eyeball QSO" (to speak to
one another in person).
17. IQØ : Slang for "IQ of zero"; an idiot (courtesy of GI4FUE).
18. YL : "Young Lady"; short for "girlfriend".
Note: The information stated above is subject to discretion. They are
available all through the ham networks and I felt like sharing it. So
