VIOLINIST SAMUEL THOMPSON
TO BE FEATURED ON ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

San Antonio, TX, August 8, 2006 - Violinist Samuel Thompson will be
heard in conversation with Audie Cornish-Emery on National Public
Radio's All Things Considered THIS AFTERNOON. This interview is one
of many marking the one year-anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and
Thompson's first visit to New Orleans since last year.

Praised for the focus, sensitivity and musical intelligence he
continuously brings to the stage, Thompson became the subject of
international media attention when he played unaccompanied Bach at the
request of a fellow evacuee while stranded in New Orleans during
Hurricane Katrina, an even which resulted in his inability to
participate in the 2005 Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin
Competition. A photo of Thompson playing in the New Orleans
Basketball Arena circled the globe, resulting the the violinist being
profiled by Jan Herman in his Straight Up column as well as in China's
Focus on People Weekly, Strings Magazine, the Boston Globe, the San
Antonio Express-News as well as being mentioned in both Relevant
Magazine and Newsweek as well as being heard on KAHL-AM in San Antonio
and South Carolina ETV Connections. Thompson has most recently been
mentioned in Rice University's alumni magazine, the Owlmanac, for his
fundraising efforts for those affected by the storm, including a
performance organized with the Orchard Park Symphony in upstate New
York (December 2005) and a recital during the South Carolina Mozart
Festival (January 2006).

In June 2006 Thompson made his east coast debut at the New Haven
International Festival of Art and Ideas, performing works by J. S. Bach
and Eugene Ysaye in a production conceived by director Peter Webster.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Thompson attended the
University of South Carolina and Oklahoma State University, receiving
the Master of Music degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of
Music in 1998 and making his national debut as soloist with the
National Repertory Orchestra shortly thereafter. A semifinalist in
the 2000 New World Symphony Competition, Thompso has performed with the
Marian Anderson String Quartet, performance artist Ann Carlson, and has
been heard as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician
throughtout the United States. He is currently living in San Antonio,
Texas.
