memhistsince2017.pngThis reflects numbers for both state and national membership taken from the respective reports for the end of October. It differs from the graph I shared a few weeks ago in that the national count shown there was from a weekly data file, not the usual report. And as discussed in an earlier message, in the meantime a change was made in the way the national database decides who to count as a sustaining member, which caused our count to drop dramatically, then go partly back up when we questioned our count and they decided to change the assumption they made about life members for whom they did not have signature information, and they also offered to correct records for annual members that had this issue, and Mimi then took them up on that offer by providing additional information about some of our people.

As you can see, the net result for us as reflected in the end of October report was that our national count is still down, back down to close to a record low, erasing what may have been an illusory gain in the previous couple of months.. But our fraction of the national count went up, because most other states suffered an even larger "loss", proportionally -- perhaps because most other states did not have people paying attention, questioning their count, and making an attempt to get at least some of the records corrected, as we did.
