I put an email out to the cheer/football coaches and I had only one team who responded that they want trophies. I need 27 football/7 cheer (Koechner/Haas). I did hear from Baker/ Mumford, Strigel, Mathis, Weiss, and VanEtten's teams indicating they would purchase their own. Everyone else never responded back to and the deadline was this past Wednesday. We have at least this many trophies at the Press Box so I say we try and use those trophies for this year. I'm sure the trophy place could take off the date strip and replace it for us. This was its cheap and we get rid of some of the clutter up in the Press Box.

Since we didn't have a board meeting this week, I was needing to know if the Club will be providing trophy's for all the teams? (Football/Cheer) Trying to put together costs for our end of the year banquet and was needing to figure out if this needed to be added onto it.Thanks-

Penny,
You bring up a good point about how teams shouldn’t buy trophies if the club is willing to provide them. Since many coaches and team managers prefer a different a different type of trophy another idea is to provide each team with funds equivalent to the cost of those trophies so that they can purchase trophies to their liking.

I know there was apparently a
deadline for the coaches about the trophy's but is tit typical that the coaches
purchase their own trophies? If I am correct there are 13 coaches and 6 were
heard from, I'm just wondering if maybe the ones you didn't hear from missed
the e-mail or really do plan on purchasing their own? I know it was the coaches
responsibility to respond but I would really hate for the kids to have to
suffer if in fact the coach dropped the ball. I personally haven't heard from
our coach so I have no clue as to his intentions. I do not believe that
coaches should be asking parents for money for trophies if the league is
willing to provide them. If the coach is paying out of their own pocket that is
one thing. If a coach did miss the deadline, is it still possible to order them
or are they just out of luck? Again, I am only thinking about the kids, not
complaining. I think sometimes in cases like this there should be a follow up
call made when there is no response to an e-mail. In the future I would
even be willing to make the calls if it means no team is left out. I only
mention making calls in cases as important as this, not over every little
thing. Maybe I'm way off but I'm just concerned about the kids of the coaches
that did not respond.

That is how it is done right now but Penny is of the opinion that coaches shouldn’t be asking parents for money to buy a trophy if they don’t like the trophies that the club provides. Providing a cash equivalent to those trophies for each team is a compromise.
This is something we can add to the agenda for a future board meeting but not the one Wednesday night since Todd wants that meeting to focus on wrestling and elections.

Kelly/Rob, I completely agree. Actually Kurt your team manager was the only one who brought up the idea of us paying for part of your trophy. As I responded to Carol, its our trophy or nothing.
As far as the deadline for additional teams to order trophies, it is possibly too late. Penny, if you have time to contact Trophy Case in Belleville and the coaches that would be great. Unfortunately, dealing with pictures, etc. I was unable to do any more than sending out an email. Speaking of Trophy Case, I or someone needs to get the trophies we have at the Press Box up to them tomorrow so they can remove last year's plaque and replace with this year. |

It doesn’t really matter to me. However, what is the difference between spending a few bucks on a trophy that the club buys or giving the team moms/managers the cash equivalent of those trophies to purchase trophies on their own? It has the same effect on our bank account.
<BR
I can’t remember why Carol didn’t like the club trophies. I think she said they were too small or very basic looking. You may not be aware of this but Carol is also the team manager for Mathis’s team which means she was probably going to try to get the club to give her the cash equivalent of the trophies for both teams. I’ll bet she is sourcing better trophies for Mathis too. I don’t know why the club trophy would meet her standards for Mathis’s team but not our team. If she is using the club trophies for Mathis’s team let me know.
Anyway, I was only making a suggestion for the future but it doesn’t really matter to me. I delegate that stuff to the team manager so I can focus on coaching. I am curious as to why you think there is a difference between the club buying trophies and the club giving a team manager the funds to buy the trophies. Unless you simply want every team to have the same trophy, it is a zero sum game financially speaking. Who cares? There is value in being flexible.
