The physical destruction of Afghanistan contributes to the overall theme of the Kite Runner that shows how everything in fact does fall apart. The destruction of the Afghanistan Amir and Hassan once knew is explained later in the book through a letter written by Hassan, "Alas the Afghanistan of our youth is long dead" showing the destruction of the friendship Amir and Hassan once had before the end of their friendship. The destruction of Afghanistan is directly related to the destruction of family. As a result of the growing tensions on the streets of Afghanistan, Amir and Baba begin their journey to America following the event when Ali and Hassan inform Baba that they are leaving the house and choose not to work for them. The fall of the original family Baba, Amir, Ali, and Hassan made in the big house in Kabul around the same time that Afghanistan begins to take a turn towards war shows the direct relationship between the place and the characters that evolved as a result to environmental impacts.

The relationship between the physical destruction of Afghanistan and the overall theme of the novel of redemption is that they are to parallel each other, you can always do right after wrong aslong as you acknowledge that wrong doing, so even though there has been destruction and wrong doing in Afghanistan, there is a way to rebuild and try to fix wrong doing there.
