Assef not only at a young age was abusive to others, but also became more aggressive as he got older. Why do you think Assef feels more superior than others and what evidence can you find that motivates Assef to become such an abusive person?

Assef had white skin, blue eyes, and blond hair. He used Hitler as a role model, a man who believed Assef's physical qualities were superior to the rest of the world's. Assef, an albino with qualities he believed superior to all those around him thought of himself as higher than everyone else because of what he learned from the world around him. As he got older, Assef was only more aware of how he looked different and his complex only increased. He believed he was above others and took Hitler's example of physical force and used it because he believed it his right.

I agree with Ginny, Assef's mother was German and passed down her German qualities of having blonde hair and blue eyes. He would always mention how Hitler was doing the right thing of removing a race that was inferior. He being higher class and having higher class treat lower class badly, does the same. With no one standing up or disciplining him for his wrongs, he grows up with his actions being acceptable and continues to abuse others because "he could".

In the novel Assef's obsession with Hitler is mentioned. I think that this really triggered his aggressiveness towards Hassan and because Amir was friends with Hassan, he was also a target. Assef feels superior to others becuase of the "race superiority" that he feels entitled to because he is white.

Assef feels more superior because he is part Germans and Germans almost took over the world in ww2 and he believes that with a few minor changes to the same path, he will be able to find power in Afghanistan and the Taliban gave him the perfect opportunity. Not to mention, Assef was also alot taller than his peers due to being part German which always gave him an advantage when trying to over power others at a young age because he just needed to use his physique.
