How would you compare Amir's loyalty to Hassan versus Hassan's loyalty to Amir?

It is apparent that Hassan is far more loyal to Amir than Amir is to Hassan. Hassan is willing to put himself in danger for the sake of Amir's safety, for instance, when Hassan runs to get the kite for Amir, Hassan ends up being raped by Assef just because he did not want to give him Amir's kite. Amir witnessed Hassan being raped and chose to do nothing. This just goes to show that Amir is a fake friend.

Amir's loyalty to Hassan is somewhat questionable. Although Amir never really says he sees Hassan as less than him, he always thinks this. Growing up Amir was always a little jealous of Hassan due to his stronger abilities and him getting the attention Amir wanted from Baba. Amir's loyalty isn't that deep for Hassan in which he watches him get raped and does nothing, and also accuses him of a crime Hassan did not commit just to get rid of him. On the other hand, Hassan's loyalty always is pure and strong. Hassan stands up for Amir against Assef and refuses to give him the kite even though he knew he would get hurt if he didn't. He also lies and says he committed the crime that Amir said even though he didn't. Hassan ultimately, even after everything Amir has done to him, still has complete loyalty to Amir and would do anything he asks.

Given that Hassan is the bigger, more athletic of the two, he has no problem putting his personal safety on the line for Amir. He is even sodomized just so he could keep a kite for Amir, showing his extensive loyalty. However for Amir, when he and Hassan are confronted by Assef Wali and Kamal they ask Amir why he's friends with Hassan. Amir wants to respond with "He's not my friend he's my servant!" which shows that he is not willing to be embarrassed in the eyes of others, ultimately illustrating the difference in their loyalties to each other.

It is obvious that Hassan is way more loyal to Amir than Amir is to him. Hassan wills to do anything for Amir as he took up for the blame of stealing the money and watch that Amir got for his birthday. so that he could get him and Ali sent away for what they thought was the best for the both of them. Amir won't even attempt to stick up for his friend in a time of much need when he watches hassan get raped by Assef. It takes tragedy for Amir to realize he lacked loyalty to Hassan and it is just about too late to make uo for that.
