In America, the way that 9/11 affected stereotypes is that it suddenly spread them throughout the entire United States. The advent of the "bomber" stereotype was only compounded during the times of 9/11, as did the phrase "radicalized Islam". When this happened, and the United States launched a military offensive, it further compounded the idea that Islamic people are the enemy. This is shown when Baba tries to purchase something in the US, and he cannot pay using credit, and must pay using cash. He is no longer among people who regard him as in high standing, and, as a Muslim man, it is likely he will never reach that status again.
