Based on Amir's character, do you think Amir would have sought to correct his wrong doings without the call from Rahim Khan telling him "there's a way to be good again"? Use evidence from Amir's actions through out the novel.

First of all, I just unfollowed you on twitter.

SECONDLY, I don't think that Amir would have sought out to atone for his wrong doings without the phone call from Rahim Khan. Throughout the novel, Amir was given ample opportunity to make the right choice in difficult situations. However, he never chose correctly because he feared the consequences of doing the right thing. For example, when he saw Hassan in the alley about to be raped, he had the opportunity to tell Assef and his two friends to stop and take the kite. Instead, Amir didn't do anything because he was afraid of the consequences for defending Hassan. He ran and hid away in fear of what Assef may do to him if he saw him. Amir also had another "opportunity" to make the right decision by not planting his watch and money under Hassan's mattress. This wasn't so much an opportunity to make the right decision, but a choice within himself.

Had Amir not recieved the phone call from Rahim Khan, I do not think he would have sought to correct his wrong doings and just wallow in self pity and regret. Throughout the novel Amir speaks of the guilt he felt throughout his life but never took any actions to redeem himself. He mentions the walks on the beach he took living in California, reflecting on the regrets he felt of his younger years. That seems pretty pitiful and sad if you ask me. Lol.

I do not believe he would try to correct his guilt, he did not come clean to anyone, until his wife at the end of the novel. It was just a dead weight on his chest everyday, that he was willing to bear forever. He did not consider even going back home, because he was afraid to confront his guilt. Amir did not understand how to control it so he kept it bottled up. By going back home he was kind of forced to re-live the pain and torture he caused everyone. By getting that phone call he realized that this might be the only way to make up for what he had done. Without that call he would have made no action towards his redemption.
