Wosven : Thank you. Very nice styles.

It goes without saying that any techie that cracks the conversion between all / any AI add-ons / tools / asset/ brushes etc and AD, will be a hero AND get a little money for their trouble. :-)

Hey, no, I didn't really find an answer. Only that some of the brushes Retro Supply sells will work with Affinity Designer and some will not. I contacted Retro Supply about my interest in these brushes and if they plan to create an option for AD. Said, no! I actually had purchased their retro etch / engraving brushes and discovered they would not work with AD they gladly refunded my purchase.

We are actually working on making all of our Illustrator brushes available for Affinity (it's basically all I have been doing for the past couple of weeks). You can see our Affinity product catalog (so far) here: -products We are hopefully going to be adding a couple of products a month here, so definitely keep an eye out on this page.

Hi Robokrabe,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
No, there's no direct way to convert them. Besides that, current Affinity Designer brushes are hybrid (raster textures being repeated or stretched along a vector tor path), not pure vector brushes yet.

The good news is that we've been super busy manually recreating a lot of our brushes for Affinity Designer. Do keep in mind that, as MEB stated, these aren't pure vector brushes, but they're whats supported by Affinity at the moment. You can check out our entire collection here.

One other thing you can do with brushes in Illustrator is that you can convert your text to outlines and apply brush strokes to the paths. The only con is that since brushes work on paths, it will outline your letters. What if you want non-outlined text with brush strokes? You can do this by drawing out letters by the pen tool, shapes, using the brush tool directly, using a Wacom tablet, or you can purchase customizable single-stroke glyph sets.

Here are some other ways that we can create brushes in Illustrator. And one of the ways is taking an image, and converting an image into a brush. Maybe you've never even thought of that. In the brushes panel, there is actually a brush created from an image and that is the denim seam brush. This is an image that simply repeated as a pattern brush to create this sewn look of denim. So yeah, you can use an image, and capture it and turn it into a brush. Not a problem. So what I wanna do is take this image that I've created of these wonderful seeds flying through the air, and turn this into a brush. Now, if I take this image, and turn it into a brush, it's going to be a large rectangular white box with these image of these seeds in here. And this white box just simply repeated as a brush, doesn't really give me the sense of these flying through the air especially with this white box in the background. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna convert these into vector shapes, and then take one of ...

Illustrator is my favorite Adobe product, and I have been using it for a while, but I still learned so much watching this webinar. And Jason's teaching style is pleasant to listen to, and his enthusiasm is infectious.

Brushes in Illustrator covers the five different types of brushes; Calligraphic, Art, Scatter, Bristle and Pattern brushes. This also covers the Brush Tool as well, which is not needed to create and use Brushes, but can add even more creativity to your creations once you learn how the Brush Tool works.

Brushes can be applied to any shape or line in Illustrator. Shape can be created with the Brush Tool or the Shape Tools and then have the brush creations applied to the stroke of those creations. What to explore more brushes? Use the built-in Library of Brushes to access and edit even more creative brushes for your creations.

In addition to creating brushes, this video will cover how to convert an image into a brush and practical applications of brushes in your creations such as adding texture, making your creations a brush and adding expressive qualities to them and being able to reshape the shape and lines that you have created with the Profile menu and the Width Shape Tool.

Hi Teela! I love your tutorials, I am wondering if there is a way to desaturate these watercolor brushes in Illustrator so that i can make them my own colors similar to the way you did in photoshop? Maybe you have a tutorial on this? Or maybe its not possible in Illustrator. Im a newbie! Thanks for all you do.

To open and use the ABR files in programs other than Photoshop, you must convert the files to PNG format using a tool like ABRviewer. Download ABRviewer and select File > Open brush sets > Open > choose the file > Export > Thumbnails. You might also have luck opening ABR files directly in GIMP without converting them to PNG.

You can't add ABR brush files to Illustrator. However, you can create and add Illustrator brush files with the AI file extension. To import Illustrator brush files, go to Window > Brush Libraries > Other Library and find the file. Then go to the Brush Library panel > select the brush to import > Add to Brushes.

Hi, great tutorial, I have just made a brush! One question: it seems to have an opacity less than 100%, is that a feature of brushes, or is there a way to make the brush completely 100%? I am using it to brush on a graphic icon, so it is showing up weird as translucent rather than full.

This particular tutorial was created to allow designers to make their brushes compatible with Affinity, however I hope this tutorial can also offer some advice for opening your purchased brushes in Affinity as well :). In this tutorial, illustrator, art director and graphic designer Rogrio Puhl (@rogeriopuhl) will teach you how to create your own brush set in an easy and intuitive way. Discover more in the video below:

Select Window > Brushes. You will likely discover brushes you do not need already saved in this panel. Rogrio recommends selecting them and deleting them. Drag the Brush panel to the Tools menu on the right.

Once you created the basic form of your stroke, drag it to the brush panel, which you previously dragged to the right of your work space. A "New Brush" window will automatically open. Select "Art Brush". Name it "Main Brush".

One of the things you frequently do while working on Illustrator is to use the brush with different settings. You may need to change the brush stroke pattern for some particular design object or change the size of the brush for another one. Hence, learning different ways of changing the brush size will come in handy while working with Illustrator.

Inside the properties panel, there is an Appearance section where you can find the Stroke option. Change stroke according to your preference. Increase the value if you want a thicker stroke, and decrease it if your selected stroke is thinner.

Changing brush size is a task that tends to be done often in Illustrator. Hence, knowing different ways of changing the brush size will help you in your illustrator project. I hope you find this article helpful.
