Spyderco has a number of knife designs that sell well year after year. These classic CLIPIT models are in high demand due to their functionality, quality of manufacture and proven reliable high-performance track record. Keeping these classics updated, Spyderco frequently upgrades them with new different blade steel and handle materials.
The Calypso progeny is a larger version of the original three-inch bladed Calypso Jr., featuring a three and one-half inch blade. It is called the Caly3.5. Available now in a premium variant, is the Caly 3.5 with a ZDP-189 blade and carbon fiber handle.
The leaf-shaped blade is made of three layers of steel. The core is high carbon ZDP-189 Japanese powdered steel, the outer laminated layers are softer, pliable 420J2 steel. The blade is full-flat ground with a PlainEdge that passes effortlessly through material.

Still, Spyderco wanted to pursue this fluted handle design. So they turned to carbon fiber, hoping that that would be a lot easier to work with for -again- consistent quality and on a production scale. Unfortunately, that too proved very challenging. So much so that this particular knife, was cancelled during production and the finished fluted handles were used for the limited anniversary run of 40th anniversary natives. Still, Spyderco hung on and in August 2017, the C41CFF5 fluted native was released for one production run.
Knives and history are reflections of each other. Paleolithic flint tools to modern folding knives; they exist to perform the simple purpose of cutting. Jordan River Valley nomads centuries ago made and carried a curved fixed-blade called a Shabaria for agriculture and protection.
Israeli knife designer, Eduard Bradichansky, co-mingled the Shabaria's traditional utilitarian profile into a modern folding knife. Mr. Bradichansky was a gunsmith and gifted jeweler by trade, new to the knifemaking community, but already attracting collectors and enthusiasts to his fresh design work and crafting skills. His career cut short, he fell victim to a terrorist attack on the West Bank.
Spyderco is re-releasing a Sprint Run of his Shabaria folder with VG-10 stainless PlainEdge blade and carbon fiber handle. At first grasp, the handle's hourglass/coffin-shape feels slim and odd in the hand but the conveyance of balance and comfort immediately follows. The light carbon fiber handle has a black steel clip embellished with a gold Spyderco bug and positions the folder for right-hand, tip-down pocket carry. A straightforward easy to access and open Michael Walker LinerLock graces the handle's underside.
Before the Caly 3 (and abbreviation of the name) there was a Calypso 2 and Calypso 1. No they didn't fade away or die. They were improved upon, becoming more functional and useful with each rendition. Like comparing the first Corvette to today's Corvette, the latest Caly 3 is an offshoot and tangible testament to the design's durability and sale-ability in the market. People continue buying the folder because Spyderco held true its original premise: A great folding knife should function and feel like a natural extension of the hand.
The Caly 3 CFP, with its high-end laminated ZDP-189 blade steel with buffed carbon fiber handle is (yes) yet another variation of the knife that converted legions of knife buyers to the hard-use benefits of flat-ground leaf-shaped blades. ZDP-189 blade steel contains 3% carbon, making it harder, higher on the Rockwell scale and in turn extending the amount of time it stays sharp. The Caly 3 CFP comes with a PlainEdged that is ground flat for precise cutting. The handle's shape settles the index finger on the underside and thumb naturally above on the jimped (slip resistant) spine so the knife feels like part of the hand with controlled grip and no forward or backward slide while cutting. Ambidextrous deep-pocket-carry tip-up wire clip. Mid-positioned backlock.
Dramatically improve the strength and feel of the Spyderco Delica 4 with these scales. The 3mm Carbon Fiber adds a large amount of rigidity and a much higher quality in-hand feel. By upgrading to carbon fiber you will also get a carbon fiber backspacer to hold the back-lock spring much more firmly.
This item is proudly made in house then hand finished and quality checked before being sent out. It uses all the hardware that comes with the Delica 4 and nothing extra. Simply unscrew the old scales and screw it back together!
Please note: This may void the Spyderco warranty (If you are sending the item to Spyderco put the original scales back on). This item uses all of the original hardware. The scales may also have some surface scratches or imperfections from the manufacturing process, but we do our best to avoid these.
The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is a compact and versatile knife that packs a serious punch despite its small size. With the addition of the carbon scales, this knife becomes even more comfortable and secure in your hand, making it an excellent choice for an everyday carry knife.
In addition to the carbon scales, we've added brass back washers - they increase durability, give the knife a finished look by being an extension of the Spyder Hole teeth... and are just so tactilely pleasing that it's hard to stop playing with the knife and put it aside.
The our 3k carbon material is durable and resistant to wear and tear, ensuring that your knife will last through years of use. Upgrade your Spyderco Dragonfly 2 with these carbon scales to take your EDC game to the next level.
Released in 2018 at Spyderco's Amsterdam Meet, the Kapara is one of Spyderco's latest and most sought-after models. The slim, pocket-friendly design features a thin carbon fiber handle with a red G-10 backspacer and reversible tip-up wire pocket clip. This elegant folder has a 3.5" CPM S30V blade with a dependable Compression Lock mechanism making it a great addition to any EDC rotation.
Thanks to the reversible pocket clip and thumb hole opener, the Kapara is fully ambidextrous. This knife is sturdy and lightweight with a high-strength compression lock that safely secures the blade. Like all Spyderco knives, the Kapara has a lifetime warranty on materials and manufacturing defects.
Custom marbled carbon fiber scales for your Spyderco Shaman. The edges have been chamfered instead of rounded for a more substantial feel. Photos simply can't capture the way these scales dance in the light. Be sure to check out the video.
