So I decided that racking up a ton of Sonos Connects was a huge waste of space and time. Decided to go try Musicserver4lox.

Using a Qotom i5 7200U + Startech 7.1 external USB audio interface

Installed Ubuntu LTS no problem

But now, when I try and run the musicserver4lox scripts, I get a fair number of errors and no luck. Lots of "nicht installen" and outdated Python error messages.

I attached the installer output log and the screen I get when I try and do the web interface.

you didnt use 18LTS did you? - it doesnt now include some of the required depencies - if you did, try 16LTS and it should be fine

Ah. That would do it. I'll give it another go.

So that got me further, still having network problems:

Version:  0.5.9
Netzwerk intern:  ...FAILED
Internet:  ...FAILED

It has a DHCP address. so no idea why.

it always shows network failed, but it still works normally

you will need to change it to a fixed address though to work with loxone otherwise loxone wont know what ip address to send the commands to

Duncan, I’ve been posting here on the lox forum site:

https://www.loxforum.com/forum/projektforen/musicserver4lox/allgemeines/204328-netzwerk-intern-failed-internet-failed

No idea what is going on. But I’d love to get this working.

its very difficult to tell from a distance, but i would suggest:

reformat the hard disk and reinstall ubuntu 16 LTS
change to a fixed ip address, subnet and gateway
restart network or reboot
test to see you can browse the internet etc
disable any internal sound cards using the blacklist functionality of linux
get any ubuntu updates
add the usb sound card

if all is well, reboot then install musicserver4lox
then see.....

So I have it working partially now.

I can add my sound cards and I set up a zone and can play music to it. But I can't get mroe than one zone to work.

I have three USB sound cards (devices 0,1,2)

I'll add a mono zone 01 with left and right being channel 7. And add a player to use that zone called "test". Works.

Then I add a zone with 4 and 5. Call it "testtwo" and it won't start. Even if I change the channels to be the same 7.

Any thoughts on why it is having problems launching more instances?

ive had a lot of trouble where you dont set up the players in series from lowest audio channel to highest, or add/remove/change virtual players once some are set up - ive had to reinstall to resolve,

you dont have a built-in sound card still enabled to you? that can cause no end of issues

I'll try and disable it, but I think I have had it. The software hard crashes my box entirely. The interface is beyond opaque for no reason and I never have an idea of which channel is which, and I swear it reassigns them randomly after every boot.

The whole thing is just an exercise in frustration at this point, I've spent more time on getting this to work than anything else and it I have never been closer to taking a roofing torch to a computer than this.

Well, I got it running finally. Definitely have to disable that internal sound card. So many weird things, like the outputs on the external sound cards are not in order. The 0 channel is a right channel, but the app starts with left, so you order them backwards in each stereo zone. No idea why it doesn't just make zones and players the same since a player doesn't seem to be able to address more than one zone...

But it is done.

Now just two more projects related to it:

(1) Figure out how to do a 12V trigger.
(2) Brutefir and Audiolense/Acourate to see about EQing the audio. The dev seems very resistant to the idea of using the app for anything besides background music, but whatever.
