Hi,

You might have noticed that over 1 month ago we released the Faradite Motion Sensor 360, a 24V low profile motion sensor with an integrated 0-10V lux sensor for use in 24V home automation systems such as Loxone.

We have had massive interest from Loxone partners all over the world, speaking with several partners today they suggested that we put a simple post on this forum to inform you guys that the sensor is available, so here it is.

Please visit our website www.faradite.com for more information, tech specs, price etc

Or reach out to our technical help via the contact us page if you have any technical or account related questions.

If you have any practical tips on installing our sensors that might be useful to other installers then please post them here.

Thanks
Chris

It could be argued that an MDT SCN-P360D1.01 is a better alternative. Maybe fractionally more expensive, but fractionally smaller, same functionality, and more importantly, is KNX so doesn't use up your precious inputs, which actually makes the total cost lower.

Rob_in - Could you explain the KNX thing? Assuming I have no KNX stuff, do I just add these sensors and just use the IP gateway?

Figuring out all the "best" choices in the small stuff now like motion/temp/switches/etc (in the US)

LMGTFY... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KNX_(standard)

Basically, the Loxone Miniserver contains a KNX gateway, but to use any KNX devices you need a bus power supply. After adding that, you connect the Miniserver to the KNX bus just like any other KNX device.

To get going you would:

- Buy a KNX bus PSU (MDT or Meanwell would probably be the cheapest).
- Buy some KNX sensors/switches/etc.
- Download the ETS software from KNX.org, register for the free license.
- Download the definition files from the suppliers of your sensors/switches and import into ETS.
- Configure your ETS software with the IP address of your Miniserver as that acts as the KNX gateway
- Now, the free KNX license only allows 5 devices per project, so I just create a project per-device and duplicate it. It's no big deal. Program your KNX devices in as simple a way as possible: ie. have them spit out messages on 'sense' or 'listen' to specific messages that you plan to spit out of the Miniserver. Do a bit of planning for this. Again, RTFM about KNX addresses.
- Create a load of KNX inputs and outputs in the periphery using the correct group addresses you just programmed into each device, and bingo!

HTH,

Robin

Faradite / Loxone much simpler requiring no knx - but does use digital inputs.
Remember there are digital inputs on dimmer extensions also. Also a Loxone air Nano gives you a further 6 digital inputs.
For measuring light levels it uses Analogue inputs 4 of which are on the mini server which was enough for me. I don't measure lux levels on the other 3 - no need if in same room!
I had enough inputs so kept life simple with one set of software (Loxone) - very pleased with Faradite motion sensors.

Not knockin KNX - never had the need to use it - yet!
Cheers David

All depends on your situation:

- Spend more money on Loxone hardware to get the required analogue/digital inputs.

Or:

- Spend more time getting KNX running. YMMV, but my time is free and it didn't take that long anyhow.

You should also consider that KNX is a very mature technology supported by pretty much every major manufacturer.

couldnt agree more - when i ran out of loxone inputs and space in the cabinet, it was quick and easy to add knx switches and digital input devices as well as dimmers all using my existing cat5 cable.

Faradite Ltd, keep telling us about the new products, we don't want the KNX. Do you have any plants for new products like, wall mounted sockets etc, with the same color like your switches?

Hi Vampiris, we don’t currently have plans to extend the range to sockets, but we are always open to suggestions on new products so your request has been noted. Please don’t hesitate to get in contact if you have any other suggestions of what you would like to see from us in the future.
