Dear all,

Has anyone got a good solution for low voltage motion sensor to install outside?

I'm wiring all the external lights back to mini server so can control all of them! If I use a standard light with built in PIR,switching them on and off this would reset the built in timing system.

So would like to come up with a separate solution 240V light, 24Vdc motion sensor!!

Regards,

Ash

The cheap one this page can be used for outdoors when adding the protective cap. It however only covers a 90 degrees angle.
It's small. but most people want something good looking in a dark color, and covering >180 degrees. Like this one.
Haven't found such a 24Vdc version yet.

I've installed the Esylux one that Loxone sell. Not cheap but it's working well.

24V units are relatively rare and therefore expensive.

There are a couple of options if you're looking to save money -
- you can buy a small 12v Meanwell Din Rail power supply for about £15 and then use any 12V units.
- the internal working voltage of the 240V units is much lower. You can hack a 240V unit to work at a different voltage - http://www.reuk.co.uk/Convert-External-PIR-to-Low-Voltage.htm

and of course you can use a normsl 240v one with a relay or ssr - 240v coil operated by the pir, and the contacts switching 24v to a loxone input

that way there are loads of cheap, wide angle and long range sensors to choose from.

These work well 24v available black or white.
Have 2 installed outside under the eaves - so far very good.
