Hi all,

Couldn't resist to share my findings in my search of 24V CV LED Panels.
I came across this wiki (added them there now as well): http://www.loxwiki.eu/display/LOX/LED+Panels , whereof the Solectric seemed the most interesting ones for me.
(Elsewhere, 24V Constant Voltage LED panels seems to be hard to find (or undocumented at least))

But then I came across some Led panels in the IKEA. So I've decided to see if they would be suitable to use with the Loxone RGBW 24V PWM (Tree/DMX) dimmer.
The included LED driver mentions an output of 30V, 1.0A. But not whether its CV or CC.

So I first measured the voltage, which lies between 20V and 24V while dimming. Not knowing still whether its CV or CC, I measured the current.
And my suspicion was confirmed, it's CV, the current ranged from 20mA to ...mA (to check values again) while dimming!

This means, it would be suitable to use with the Loxone RGBW 24V dimmer, which comes in a Tree, Air and DMX version!
And indeed, wiring everything up, the LED panel can be controlled nicely with the RGBW 24V dimmer (using as separate dim channels).

Here are the links to the IKEA website. These LED panels have 2 LED types included, a warm-white and a cold-white (so 2 channels used from the dimmer)
They come in 3 sizes: 30x30cm, 30x90cm and 60x60cm

Hi Bartel,

First, I would like to thank you for your helpful contribution.

The execution is not yet quite clear to me.
As far as I understand it the built-in power supply is not used (voltage comes directly from the dimmer)
For my understanding there should be at least three connections: 1x Cold White, 1xWarmwhite, 1x Common (Plus or Minus). On the picture, however, I can only see two connections? How is switching between warm and cold white done?

Thanks in advance

Kind greetings
Alex

Correct, so the thing you see on the image "Ikea_Led_Panel_Driver.jpg" is not used anymore.

Also correct, should have been more clear on this indeed. I only tested them separately. So these lights have separate LED's for the Cold and Warm. So you can drive them separately, or together, mixing colours (increasing intensity).

So in total you would need:
2x Common (+) so interconnect to RGBW 24V Dimmer (1x +)
1x Cold White (-)
1x Warm White (-)

So with one RGWB 24V dimmer you could drive 2 full LED panels (2x Cold, 2x Warm) or 4 half LED panels (4x Warm OR 4x Cold)

Hope it's clear now?

Interesting.   From the link it appears they come with the driver and the remote control (but they show them used as a bank of 6 in one of the images in which case you'd end up with 6 remotes?).  Do they  sell the panel by itself?(sometimes things are shown complete online but when you get to store you can just get the parts separately).

This is indeed the case, unfortunately. I just checked as well via support-chat, the panels itself are not for sale separately (not even as a spare part).
So there is quite a big overhead cost for the "smart accessories" which are not being used...

Hi Bartel,

Thank you for this! I'm currently looking at using IKEA FLOALT 30x90cm together with Loxone RGBW Tree.

You mention you need 2 channels per panel but I would only like to use a single channel on my Loxone RGBW Tree (only interested in dimming warm white - not interested in switching between different white colors).
Does the below make sense? Should it work?

1. I only connect "Warmwhite" + "Common". I will not be able to switch between different colors but i'm not looking for that feature. I want just to be able to dim warm white.
2. The panel is 29W. RGBW Tree can handle 200W/channel so it should not be a problem in connecting e.g. 2 panels on the same RGBW Tree channel?

Hi Ken!

You're welcome! You would need two channels, one for WarmWhite and one for the Cold-White if you want full functionality/lumens.
If only the WarmWhite is sufficient for you, you indeed can make the connection like mentioned in your 1st case.

For your 2nd case, it would be indeed possible to wire multiple panels to 1 channel. Do mind the cross-section of the wires.
E.g. if you would re-use (daisy-chain) the common/channel wire, it should be able to handle the sum of all currents (this table may be a help for choosing this: http://24volt.co.uk/info/Wiring/Wiring)

Possibly you can even hook up even more panels, as probably the 29W counts for both WW and CW? So the WarmWhite would only be around 15W...

Good luck!

Thank you Bartel!

Bought 2 60x60 panels today as a start. Will give those a try on a single channel.
