I'm finishing off various bits of admin for our selfbuild at the moment and it's got me wondering what I should file away for Loxone.  Any changes I'm going to make for the foreseeable future are software rather than hardware

What happens if I'm no longer around and a fault needs diagnosing or someone wants a change?  Presumably most 'pro' installs come with a maintenance contract.

I've printed the Loxone config and my wiring key (what each of the incoming numbered CAT cables does).  What else should I think about physically creating?  What format?

Back up config on USB memory or CD-Rom (at the moment I've just got the configs on Dropbox - though i just discovered that v8 had started saving them somewhere else)
Probably need to write down all the admin account passwords somewhere.
Anything else?

Great topic. I have been thinking the same.

One thing I would add is the physical locations of kit (I have 2 locations one in a loft) and if possible the wiring routes.

Interested to hear others thoughts

One thing that has always made me nervous is edit access if Loxone were to go out of business, or get bought and support for existing systems was dropped.  As an Apple household I run Loxone Config on a Windows Bootcamp on my (2010) mac laptop but I'm not sure what I'll do when that stops working.  Ideally I'd have an OS with Loxone Config that would boot from a USB drive that could be 'filed'

Another option is to run VirtualBox on Mac and save the virtual machine directory. I've used VirtualBox for a long time and never had any trouble with it. I'm using Loxone Config in Windows 7 in VirtualBox. VirtualBox updates come out regularly and are easy to apply.

The VirtualBox virtual machine directory can be moved to any platform that VirtualBox runs on - OSX, Windows, Linux, Solaris. Its free.

It is too bad that Loxone didn't develop a portable application. Its becoming more and more important for applications to run on OSX, Linux, and Windows.

I'm doing all my config using a VM on paperspace.com . You can get a Windows 10 VM set up in minutes, and they have both a web and a desktop client. For most purposes it's really like transforming the Loxone desktop config app into a web app.

What does it cost overall? Can you just buy an OEM windows licence and use it?
