Hello,

I haven't found a good way to put in a terminal block or similar in my DIN enclosure.
It seeam there exist different methods with it's own pros and cons.

I searched the Loxone forum and found this on a german post, but haven't found it online in a shop or similar:

Loxone shop has this, seems nice, but I find it a bit expensive..:

I can see some people using LSA stuff in their enclosure, but it doesn't seem to fit well on a DIN rail..

It seems there is a custom product for Loxone aswell, does anyone have this? It's fairly compact, but the price is a bit high.. I dont know how easy it is to get a hold of.

Currently I have 14 cat6 cables for push buttons and pir sensors, but I will probably add some in the future...
Can anyone comment on which solution they picked and why?

Thanks

Duncan

Hi, How would the Weidmuller 8x4 seperated blocks work;   can I terminate 4 ethernet cables in each block?,  or will each block take only 1 cable?

There are 8 layers, each layer has four interconnected terminals - two on the top half and two corresponding terminals on the bottom half.

Thanks. Just a quick update.  I did order these from Loxone, they are expensive especially for only 20 blocks, of which I have so far used 15 to terminate all my switches and PIRs.  They will certainly help keep things organised in my cabinet.  Surely an 8 layer 2interconnectors (8x2) would have been better for the task.

It's a bit late for the OP but sharing for future searches...

Today I discovered that Wago make DIN Rail holders for various cable connectors. There's a catalogue here (or search 'type:pdf Wago Installation Connectors'):

For solid core cables (good for cat5/6/7/KNX) you can take blocks to connect 2, 3, 4, 5 & 8 wires together. Naturally you will need 8 of these for cat7 for example.

Pricing is good. Eg: 1 x Wago 2273-500 + 8 x Wago 2273-202 (good enough to terminate the 8 wires in cat7 and then connect to one patch into your cabinet) works out at under 3EUR an 8 core cable. This is at least 4x cheaper than the Weidmuller mounts.

For stranded cable cores you would need to take the Wago 221 or 222 splicing connectors. Eg for an RGBW cable (5 core) you could use: Wago 221-500 + 5 x Wago 221-412. I can find this solution at close to 2EUR for the 5 cores.

Oh, they even do DIN mounts for KNX terminal blocks if you are that way inclined (Wago 243-112 or Wago 243-113).

Have you actually used these for this purpose? According to their spec they can't handle wires as small as cat5.

I have not installed using these connectors, but intend to.

The specs I can find for individual cross sections are

- KNX -> 0.8mm2
- Cat5 -> AWG22/0.404mm2
- Cat6/Cat7 -> AWG23/0.509mm2

This means that Wago 221, 222 & 2273 series should all work with KNX & Cat6/7.

However, as you point out, Wago 2273 handles 0.5mm2 minimum so is not specified to work with Cat5. This isn't a problem for the 221 & 222 series though.

Cheers,

Robin

Just as a follow up, this is how I connected the KNX bus in our project we have several arms spanning out from the cabinet as you can see.

All that is required is 1 x WAGO-243-808 (red) & 1 x WAGO-243-208 (black). These are 50c each at Conrad.

If you used the Weidmueller blocks, sure, it might look a little neater but would take space on your rail and cost a lot more! Notice I have loads of space behind the rail and no other wires in the area to potentially disturb these so went this way.

Robin
