I've commented here before about the weak security features of the Loxone. I've been searching more than a year for a modern security system to integrate with my Loxone. I think I've found the solution, which I provide here for others that might be interested. It literally does everything one could want in a modern security system - modular (with encryption), web-based management, optional cloud, ethernet, z-wave, cellular, 500! zones, etc. AND its relatively inexpensive!

The reference manual refers to an "Automation API" login. I'm working with a dealer to see if I can get that.

One place to buy in USA is Advanced Security.

The product was announced at CES in 2017.

Any thoughts on the system?

For the record, the home automation integration is not available to the public at this time. Nor is it available through an authorized dealer. Apparently only manufactures that get a license. Same disease that infests Bosch, DSC, ...

Leviton OmniPro is another. Both overlap functionality with Loxone - and charge for it.

The older generation from DSC, the 18xx series, has a RS232 integration module (IT-100) with a public protocol or it can be modernized with a 3rd party device (EnvisaLink). The EnvisaLink also works with the Honeywell Vista panels. The EnvisaLink talks to their keypad bus so is not limited by the panel vendor.

I've read that DIYers can't purchase the Elk cellular communications module. Or, if they can, they won't warrant it.

So it appears that all panel manufacturers are limiting newer products. I suspect this is intended to soothe professional installers. In my opinion its a flawed and failed strategy. When I spoke to Bosch tech support about their G series integration they were aware of a single obscure vendor that integrates with them (licensed it I assume). I suspect many DIYers are like me and walk away rather than hire a professional installer. So the logic of protecting installers is bogus. They are giving up revenue for no reason.

Loxone seems to be shifting in that direction as well. My advice to them is be careful. I already consider their systems to be too proprietary and expensive (I'm not going to use their switches or dimmers). They do not have an insurmountable advantage. Some of us are capable of similar hardware and software capabilities and open sourcing it all. My advice is pay attention. That may seem like an idle threat but look around - when that happens it takes awhile but many times the capability eventually exceeds proprietary products at a much lower cost. Many products (and companies) have been crushed this way. It would be wise to pursue other revenue channels without cannibalizing others.

I one hundred percent agree with you.

I am reconsidering Loxone for my house because of their approach. Their software and interface and PLC are their competitive advantages. But each is falling behind as they roll out proprietary bullshit instead of signing deals and partnering with a wide variety of players.

I am already removing my plans for a Loxone music server on favor of Sonos. I won't buy a single Loxone Air device.

For lighting, I am going with a DMX interface with Ketra bulbs.

I'll probably just get an installer for Elk. I don't have that much time to sick around.

So what am I exactly going to use Loxone for now? Not. Rey much.

The problem is I want best in class solutions and they are always going to be marginally competitive in everything since their focus is spread.
