Hi Nick,

I'm sometimes getting 24V spots from Benory Lighting on Alibaba: https://benorylighting.en.alibaba.com/

They have a wide portfolio of 24V LED spots and ceiling lights: cold, warm, tunable white,RGBW, indoor and outdoor lamps.

Nick, I found a good number 24V LED Lamps on Amazon - I am fitting standard GU10 and BC lamp holders with mains rated wiring such that I can easily change the source of the supply in the Loxone cabinet at a later date if i decide that 24V lamps aren't bright enough or become hard to source.

Before you invest in a large quantity of lamps / fittings I would recommend checking they dim properly without any weird effects, my experience to date is that 24V dimming is more of a minefield than mains!

Wherever possible (and especially with the plaster in light fittings) I have stuck to GU10 replaceable lamps rather than integrated light fittings to give flexibility in lamp suppliers rather than be caught out by something going obsolete - I previously got caught out when my go to JCC LED downlight went EOL and the replacement not being cosmetically identical due to a very different lens design - i had customers who hated that they weren't identical in the same ceiling when 1 needed replacing

Thanks Paul again for a fantastic reply.

I have run mains rated cable at every point i plan to use 24v LED lighting so that if i am not happy with the performance i can switch to either a relay or dimmer extension. At the moment, due to waiting on additional funds, all cables are laid but i am not sure on light location yet or fitting types. Runs are behind plasterboard leading back to the loxone cab so i can plan and test both 24v, relay and dimmable extensions.

Thanks again Paul

I wish i had done more 24v as part of my install. I have 2 dimmer extensions and ended up not installing as much LED as I planned. One of these got damaged by inrush current with a toroidal transformer. I have currently got these 2 circuits running on an extra 12v PSU and RGBW dimmer. This works well but you are limited of capacity if you drop to 12V. I really struggled to find a source of 24v bulbs. I may still swap some of the mains ones out to 24v and use RGBW modules to control them. After taking on a lot of our build ourselves after falling out with the builder we just ran out of decision making capability and just installed mains spots in lots of locations. My installed did provide a dual white bulb for me to test but that was hard wired so would have meant I had to somehow change all of the light fittings to accommodate it but tuneable white would have been interesting. Ideally I would have used the Loxone RGBW spots but I am not sure they are bright enough for general lighting.  I have the PSU/Backup and hardly using its capacity. I have a Givenergy system that is supposed to act as an emergency power supply which works when I test it but actual power outages seem to have a surge which causes the house battery to switch off just long enough for Loxone to power down which means we are sat in darkness while it all powers back up even if power was off for a fraction of a second. For that reason I plan to add batteries to the install to maintain the 24v system.
