Hi all,

So some nice changes with v12.1. Finally we can set different comfort/eco temperatures for heating and cooling - yay!

And on the climate front there is a new HVAC Controller block:

https://www.loxone.com/enen/kb/hvac-controller/ - "This block is optimized to work with at least one Intelligent Room Controller and its intelligent mode switching to control the heating/cooling system."

The question is what does this do that is different from the existing Climate Controller block:

https://www.loxone.com/enen/kb/climate-controller/ - "This block controls a Heating and/or Cooling source. Depending on the requirements of the assigned Room Controllers, it is decided whether the Heating or Cooling output is active."

At first glance these seem practically the same, so what did I miss?

Watching their video (which really should not be taken as a reference to what these blocks do!)...

... it says that HVAC can control a "combination of devices", so maybe that is it?

Here we have wet UFH (reversible air source heat pump) on the ground floor which is currently controlled from a Climate Controller block. However, for the loft conversion (when I get round to it) will have regular ducted, reversible, zoned A/C up there but I plan to put a couple zones from that system into existing ground floor rooms.

Do you think the HVAC Controller should be seen as an 'upgrade' to the Climate Controller and is designed for the scenario I describe? Ie. where there will be some rooms that can be heated/cooled from multiple sources?

Cheers,

Robin

Nothing? Really? Has anyone looked at this yet?

Well I briefly looked at it, all I spotted is that it has a minimum "OFF" time whereas the old CC has a minimum ON runtime time (Tmin vs Tc). Not sure that warranted a whole new function block! I'd have rather they added minimum off time to the climate controller, as on my heat pump I'd like to be able to set both, and currently have to use external logic blocks to arrange that

Thx. Glad it wasn't just me that found this odd.

If only they had proper documentation describing what the block actually does - connections in and out only tell half the story :(
