We will do a full day testing of the new Motion Sensor Air in our office to see if it can be used as a presence detector rather than a motion detector
We will also compare it to some other 24V and KNX motion and presence sensor.

I'll write the results here next week.

cheers

Okay, here are the results:

I installed and tested the motion sensor in my 5m x 4m office. I first checked the wireless range, connecting to the Air extension which is 30m away, traversing 3 brick walls. The signal strenght is at -83dBm which is 3 of the 5 blocks in the Loxone Monitor.
Attaching it to the ceiling was easy.

I set it up with the parameter 'Overrun duration' set to 'Short - 3  seconds' and left the parameter 'Sensitivity' to it's default value 'Level 1 - 75%', added the output to a tracker and tested it for 24 hours. It first seemed to function correctly, but then I noticed the sensor did set off on average 2 times per hour with no reason, also during the night with nobody present.

Then I changed the 'Sensitivity' parameter to the other extreme 'Level 4 - 25%'. Now I was not able to set off the sensor at all. I put on some loud hip hop music and asked my colleague to dance around, using the whole room. Nothing.

Only the 2 middle sensitivity levels 'Level 2 - 60%' and 'Level 3 - 40%'  were usable, i.e. without false alarms and detecting each time someone walks in or out the office.

Now it definitely is a Motion sensor and not a Presence sensor. I can sit and work at my desk for an hour without setting of the sensor.

The 24V wired and KNX sensors listed as Suggested Alternatives in this page are far more sensitive when adjusted not to give false detections. A very useful feature of the KNX sensor is that you can dynamically set multiple levels of sensitivity,e.g. you can get a separate signal for presence and for motion, and the levels can be different for day/night, and per sensor. Using the multiple sensors, you can make some directions more sensitive than others.

The detection capability of the Air Motion Sensor is lower than the compared products, however it is a useful product to add on and extend or improve multiple automation functions.

Tried 2 more of the same sensors and they seem to work much better than the first one:
  • so far no false alarms while on Sensitivity Level 1.
  • on average 1 detection per 2 minutes while typing on my computer with my head at 2.5m distance from the sensor
Looks like I picked a faulty unit to do my initial testing.
Collecting evidence with the faulty and good sensor mounted next to each other and also in exchanged positions, before sending it back to Loxone.

I test 10 more of these sensors and all worked fine. Almost incredible to believe that I picked the only faulty unit from the stack first. Anyway, Loxone confirmed it was faulty and I got a new one.

Hi I Am new with this sensor and trying to use it as a alarm system, the requirement of my customer is to use wireless sensor as alarm system in outdoor area. Can I use it? and also I like to know where I can set up sensitivity level in loxone config.

Thanks

No, it's for indoor use only. One of the device's parameters is Sensitivity.
