Removal of parking buffer on 300 block of Haight

Dear Vallie,

I live on the 300 block of Haight, and I oppose the removal of the parking buffer on the South sidewalk.  This buffer protects us against reckless drivers, provides pedestrians a detour around vehicles parked on the sidewalk, and shortens the distance to cross the street.  This plan also removes the recently-added bulbouts which reduce crossing distances and make it more difficult to do donuts in the Haight and Webster intersection.

Last summer a sidewalk parker pulled out into an oncoming vehicle, causing a four-car pileup, and the parking buffer was critical to containing the collision:

The plan diagram also contains a number of errors, such as not showing the bulbouts in the "before" view, and claiming that there are only 7 parking spaces affected -- I count 12, and multiple motorcycle spaces in the gaps.  We also won't be able to get to the bikeway since left turns are forbidden on Haight all the way down.

So, as such, I'm not convinced that this plan is the best approach to the problems on Haight, and it has significant impacts, possibly literally.
