Hello, Lower Haight Residents and Merchants!

The Lower Haight Merchant + Neighbor Association is seeking new board members and committee members for the association. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed merchants and neighbors who are interested in helping push our mission of a safe, thriving and inclusive Lower Haight forward.

Background

We have been together for about 4 years now in this iteration. There have been merchant organizations and neighborhood organizations, but to my knowledge this is the first time a merchant + neighbor association has been attempted in our neighborhood. It has been working well. Among other things, we

• Put on the Lower Haight ArtWalk, a three-times a year event to increase foot traffic and invite visitors to explore our neighborhood and its shops
• Coordinate the Love in the Lower Haight Mural, a gateway to the Lower Haight at Laguna and Haight. Visitors from all over the world come to take their picture with local artist Jeremy Fish' silly pink bunny installation, and neighbors and Walden House continuously work to keep it clean
• Worked with police to keep the neighborhood safe, from holding meetings in the neighborhood to inform police and community of what's going on to educating both of the importance of working together  
• Raised $20,000 for the folks who were displaced by the Haight and Fillmore Fire, and continue to work with the building to get the best alternative for our neighborhood
• Fight in the redistricting process for the Lower Haight to be put into one district--District 5--rather than split in two as we are now.
• Work with 55 Laguna developers and the City to make sure they have local residents in mind as they plan their redevelopment of the Laguna and Haight complex, turning it into 300+ residential rental units, office space, a community space, and a walkway down Waller

We can do even more with your help. We are looking for two things:

1. Committee Members (committees: Safety, Clean and Green, Communication, ArtWalk, Planning, Transportation, Membership, Merchants). Please let me know if you'd like to join one of these standing committees. 

2. If you've already been involved in one of our committees, we'd be very interested in having you step up to a board member. Board members need to be  members in good standing, be able to make all but 3 of the 11 meetings for the board and all but 2 of the community meetings (6X a year). You need to be a member of a standing committee. Most of all, you need to care about the neighborhood and want to help it become safer, more thriving, and as inclusive as it is now.
