New Orleans Police Department Public Information Office

NOPD Invites You To Participate In Our VoCal Program

One of the New Orleans Police Department’s goals is to promote greater citizens participation. With this in mind the VoCal Program was created.  The VoCal (Volunteers Can Lead) Program provides an opportunity for residents to volunteer their time and skills to assist the New Orleans Police Department in its efforts to address the community’s needs.

Here are some areas where volunteers’ time and skills can be used include:

• providing clerical duties in our district stations
• providing tourist information for visitors at the Eighth District Station
• greeting and assisting visitors at the reception desk at Police Headquarters
• participating in and lending ideas to our Crime Prevention Programs

Currently there are sixty-six volunteers serving in the VoCal Program.  A total of 3758 service hours have been provided by volunteers since the program was started in 2011. Our goal is to have at least 25 additional volunteers added to our roster by the beginning of 2014.

Any citizens interested in becoming a VoCaL volunteer must be at least 18-years-old, must pass a police background check, must pass a standard drug screening, and must commit to a minimum of 12 hours a month volunteer service.  Anyone interested in joining the VoCal Program or need additional information can contact Officer Nicole McCaskill at nmmcc...@nola.gov.  Officer McCaskill may also be reached via telephone at (504) 658-5807.

The Volunteer application can be found online at http://www.nola.gov/nopd/volunteer/
