When creating your listing, simply select No shipping: Local pickup only from the dropdown menu in the Shipping details section. Make sure you enter your ZIP code in the item location because it will show on your listing.
In your payment options, select Pay on pickup and any other payment methods you'd like to accept. You need to offer buyers at least one of the approved electronic payment methods, and you cannot discourage buyers from using any payment method you specified in the listing.
In your item description or checkout instructions, specify when and how the buyer can collect the item. Don't add your full address, just the area will do. You may need to get in touch with them after the listing ends to confirm the details of the pickup.
Returns for local pickup listings should be treated the same as other delivery options. If the buyer returns an item because it's faulty or it isn't as described in the listing, they can return it to you even if your return policy states you don't accept returns.
Many sellers offer free local pickup, especially for large items which may be difficult to ship. You can collect the item in person, inspect it before you take it home, and save money by not having to pay for shipping.
I will require payment through Ebay before arranging local pickup. But the buyer has to know more than the ZIP code where the item is located. Further, I would prefer to meet him in a different ZIP code within my city. We need to trade meeting location and contact information, such as cell phone numbers.
Extra step if you wish, when buyer purchases and pays for Local Pickup they will be given a QR code by eBay. At pickup you can scan the QR code or copy down the number, if you scan with your phone I think it updates eBay to mark as shipped, if you just have the number (or not) then manually mark the item as picked up.
Cash only for local pickup sales, anything else is asking for later problems.
And yes, I realize eBay requires you to "accept an electronic payment method", but you can certainly make "cash only" part of your terms. Never once had a problem with doing so over many, many local pick-up sales.
The few times I have offered local pickup (or the buyer lived in my city and asked if they could arrange it) I always meet at a parking lot at a mall or in front of a retail establishment. Usually a Starbucks. Recently on a pricier item I offered to drive up to 20 miles to meet up. (which I ended up doing)
Select eBay sellers offer In-store pickup. You can find eligible items in search using the filter 'In-store pickup Eligible'. Alternatively, eligible products mention 'In-store pickup Eligible' on both the product listing page and at checkout.
You will be notified via email when your product is ready to be picked up at the selected store. Please review the seller's pickup instructions in the order update email that you receive after purchase.
Thank you ferncliff-39 for the answer. I just double-checked and I can confirm that the order does say "Local Pickup". I looked once again at my eBay messages box and I am pretty confident that I have not received any message with the QR code (and the 6 digit code) so far. I also tried from my phone and there the "Get pickup code" button does show up but nothing happens when I click on it (it looks like it is not activated).
3) once the buyer has purchased: on pickup, require that the buyer provide the pick up confirmation code (sent by eBay to the buyer in the sales confirmation email) - you can scan the QR code on the eBay mobile app or enter it manually. This counts as confirmation that the buyer received the merchandise as far as eBay is concerned.
Local pickup items such as this one often do better in a local marketplace, like social media of the other local thing we can't mention. Then, only local eyes are on your item, and you are not required to take paypal.
It has long been known that accepting an online payment for local pickup leaves the seller hanging in the breeze. And since you have to offer online payment just plain and simple do NOT list local pickup only items here.
I sold an item on eBay and got the shipping label fedex thru eBay. I then tried to schedule a pickup thru fedex and they advised that eBay labels are not eligible for pickup, but if I call eBay they may be able to set it up. Right now eBay is not doing phone support and I am medically not allowed to deliver my package to a dealer. I was able to ship USPS, but that cost an extra $12. Can anybody explain how to schedule a pickup for fedex?
I has a similar situation about a month ago. They buyer asked after he paid if he could pick his order up. I called ebay to see if I should just cancel and have him repurchase as a Local Pickup. They told me "No, just have them message on ebay that they picked the item up and then mark the order as Shipped." The buyer did so while he was still here in my office. I had marked as shipped & refunded the shipping cost so all was good. And I still got "dinged" for no tracking or carrier scan.
For the record - The buyer that picked up the order was a real nice guy, we spoke for a very long time when he came and picked up the order. I know this isn't terribly relevant to my dilemma but there are a lot of people in this thread willing to jump to the conclusion that this was some kind of scam. I think both he and I just had no idea we had to configure a local pick up scenario in our ebay dashboard. Thank you for all the helpful advise people are giving anyways.
Story: I purchased a Wii U system from a seller in Michigan. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it was pickup only; that is certainly on me as I live in Texas. I place the order on 7/25 at 4:22 pm and made a request to cancel 14 minutes later at 4:36 pm. I also sent a message to the seller explaining the situation. The seller never replied to the message and a few days later on 7/29 the cancellation request was rejected. I sent another message to the seller on 7/30 informing them that I received notification the request was rejected and asked if they perhaps decided to ship the item. It is now 8/2 and I have still not received a single message form the seller. The tracking option under "Help & Contact" section say that, while no tracking number has been provided, the estimated delivery is 8/1. Well, 8/1 was yesterday and nothing showed.
Now, I'm just curious as to what I should do if the item doesn't show tomorrow (8/3)? Do I wait until 8/4 to see if the item arrives? If it doesn't arrive, how do contact ebay regarding their "money back guarantee?"
Since the listing was for a local pickup item there would have been no shipping to pay. By the terms of the sale, the OP is obligated to pick up the item and the seller isn't required to ship the item.
I found an item I would like, and when I looked where it would be shipping from, it is literally minutes from my house. So I asked the seller if they would be alright with local pickup if I won the item. They said it would be alright rather than pay $11 to ship it a mere few miles. Now how would I do that if I won? I looked at shipping options and all I can see is USPS shipping available.
All you have to do is pay cash when you pick up the item. The seller will need to revise the listing and add the local pickup option and if possible, remove "immediate payment required". You will then complete the buy-it-now process and then pay cash at the time of pickup.
Dear Buyer,
Due to ebay and paypal return policies all items for sale are shipped as stated and we can not consider alternate shipping arrangements that are not included in the listing.
Thank you.
Seller
On items that are not listed for Local Pickup any buyer can open up an Item Not Received case (after leaving with the item) and ebay will refund their money since the seller can't prove otherwise with no tracking...
