Hello to you all.
Recently I had the opportunity to go to a game farm in the Hoedspruit area
The Giraffe's calf fell into one of the chalet's swimming pool and the mother followed it into the water to protect it.
The Calf managed to get out reasonably easily with the assistance of the Resort staff - but the mother could not traverse the steps and kept slipping back into the water and sustaining injuries to her ankles.
Water was pumpted out of the pool and eventually the front end loader had to bring in soil so that the giraffe could try and "walk" out of the pool !
To no avail. The giraffe mother eventually gave up on the effort and collapsed and had to be pulled out with a tractor - a rope around its neck !
A blessing was received and she recovered from her ordeal ......
Both animals had injections to safe guard them from flu - as they had been in the water for some time - but they are now fine and strong.
Yeah ..... not an everyday occurrence ! A satisfied customer and vet
