A new thread all about gear: shoes, clothes, parkour-friendly bags,
etc.

I realize a lot of the times I try to help people on cat grabs, wall
runs, and other such moves I end up telling you about my shoes. They
are 5.10's and they have Stealth Rubber soles. This is specially
designed rubber specific to rock climbing and sticking to things. For
more info check out their website:
http://www.stealthrubber.com/
Also 5.10's website:
http://www.stealthrubber.com/

I have owned a few pairs, the Insights, the Savants, the Freerunners,
and currently the Daescents. Once you go Stealth, you can't go back.
They are getting pricy- used to be 95 and now I think are 105. Check
Zappos.com for deals, they carry some. If you have any questions
about these specific shoes just ask me.

But here's something very cool I just found. Stealth is selling
resoling kits. I believe they are more for actual rock climbing shoes
but they are cheap enough to give it a shot. They even have half
resolers... because really, how often do you need a sticky heel?
Imagine taking you most comfortable and favorite running shoes that
suck for grip... then adding a new sticky sole?

Cheapest I've found is here:
http://www.mtntools.com/cat/rclimb/rshoes/510resolekits.htm

Since I have Stealth soles already I am not going to try it, but
please tell me if you do.

can the Stealth "Freerunners" take a good amount of impact?

i ask because, i've seen people suggest shoes, for freerunning, that
have extremely good grip, but the bottoms are basically leather.

Bis says that the Freerunners take impact well but the "Ascents" not
as well - and if you read the info on them the Freerunners have 3
layers in the sole and the ascents only have 2

if we are talking about Gear -- any one have tips for some good
gloves. Like thin ones that are tight but stretch and of course grip
well. I saw some under armor gloves that i liked but didnt know if
the grip would last ... and they were $30 i think

Look for mechanics gloves at a hardware store. They'll be 'spensive,
but prolly meet your criteria.

first SHOES:

The Freerunners are the most comfortable, most like a running shoes, and have had the best support and cushion of the 5.10 shoes.  The Daescents (not Aescents) are less supportive and fit tighter like an actual climbing shoe.  They look a whole lot better and actually force you to make better landings.

If I had to buy a new pair, I would probably buy the Freerunners.

second GLOVES:

there are also tree climbers gloves.  They are basically cotton gloves that are dipped in a grippy rubber.  They fit tight, are flexible, and relatively cheap.  They are otherwise known as latex-coated gloves.

third PANTS:

I found a great pair of ski pants that work great for cold parkour.  Especially lately in this rain.  They are water proof, warm, have zip up pockets, and are very durable when rubbing against concrete and bricks.  They are also quite padded.  Don't break the bank purchasing a new pair.
Check out your local second hand thrift store for a pair.  I got mine for 3$.

fourth SHIRTS:

While you are at the second hand store look for under armor.  The sweat wicking shirts.  They will keep you dry in this cold weather when you get hot.  That way when you stop, you don't start freezing in your own sweat.

Happy shopping,  and Hannukah and Christmas is coming so ask Santa or... uh, spin the dradle for you new parkour gear.
