From Kimberly Powell, your Guide to Genealogy
So many of you responded either through comments or private emails last week that you hope to use this new year to expand your genealogical education, pursue certification or start/expand a genealogy business. It's hard to resist turning something we all love so much into a profession, isn't it? So this week I thought I would explain various certification/accreditation options for those of you who asked, along with highlighting genealogical educational programs and other options for expanding your genealogical knowledge and skills. Happy New Year!

Options for Becoming a Credentialed Genealogist
I've submitted my preliminary application and am now officially "on the clock" for my certification application with the Board for Certification of Genealogists (due by December 2011). But this is just one option for attaining credentials as an expert genealogist.

10 Educational Opportunities for Genealogists
I'm excited to be attending the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy next week and starting the online Boston University course later this month. I've also availed myself of several of these other educational opportunities in the past (Note: online registration for this year's IGHR opens January 18 and the courses fill up quickly). No matter how much you know, there is always more to learn!

Guidelines for Starting a Genealogy Business
I often receive emails from genealogists who find that they love family history so much that they'd like to turn it into a career. But how? Can you really earn a living doing what you love?
