New Exhibit: Pecan Candy in New Orleans

Pecan Candy is a new exhibit devoted to the irresistible pralines of New Orleans. From old packaging to models of praline vendors, this exhibit covers the history of the sweet praline, from France to the streets of New Orleans. Thanks to guest curator Chanda Nunez for all of her hard work!

OKRA: SoFAB's Online Magazine

This week on OKRA Elizabeth Pearce weighs in on the benefits of Drinking, Kelsey Parris considers the Mini King Cake Trend, and we take a look at the wonderful, quirky old Galatoire's Menu for the Knuckler's Rendezvous Secret Society. Since King Cake season is almost done, don't forget to make one before the  season's gone with these King Cake recipe from David Guas.  OKRA is now looking specifically for stories related to absinthe, setting the table, and road food, so please let us know if you happen to be an expert in one of the above! Visit OKRA for more stories throughout the week.

Be sure to let us know what you think of our new venture, and as always, contact Stephanie (step...@southernfood.org) if you would like to contribute to OKRA.

Nitty Grits Spotlight of the Week

We here at SoFAB have a funny feeling that for the rest of this week and the beginning of next, many of our readers in New Orleans and Louisiana will be consuming a good deal of beer. Interesting concept for Mardi Gras, right? In our duty to educate the public on the history of their foods and beverages, we therefore present to you a history of New Orleans Beer. Imbibe with a little more knowledge this year, and happy Mardi Gras!

Add your own favorite foods and stories while you explore ours. Nitty Grits is SoFAB's Southern Food Wiki, and is open to all. We ask that you help us to grow this important cultural and culinary resource.

New in the SoFAB Store

In keeping with our beer and Mardi Gras celebration theme this week, we highly recommend checking out this awesome WWOZ Backpack that has been tailored to your partying needs. The conveniently sized bag consists of a soft, insulated cooler, a top with two built-in drink holders, and a waterproof front pocket to keep things safe. Drop by our shop in the Riverwalk or order online.

Our E-zine is Up and Running!

Check it out and let us know your thoughts!
