The 2022 LCA Scholastic Kick-Off was a Roaring Success!!

This past Saturday, 66 players from 18 different Louisiana schools turned out for the LCA’s Scholastic Kick-Off Tournament. More than half were new to tournament play, while many more were enjoying their first big interscholastic event in a couple of years. Ochsner Health generously sponsored the event by providing conference space for the playing hall, skittles room, and parents’ lounge area. It was a great day of chess competition and community growth.

Good Sportsmanship Awards

The LCA also presented 4 good sportsmanship trophies to players nominated by their peers for exceptional displays of kindness and generosity toward fellow competitors. The top “good sport” of the day, who received a new chess set and board in addition to her trophy, was Airline Park Academy First Grader Victoria Stanovnov.  Runners-up were Maurice Menon, Carter Rose, and Charlie Phillips.

About 2 dozen players took advantage of the LCA’s discounted vouchers to join or renew their membership with US Chess. As soon as all of the new memberships are processed, the event will be rated and we’ll post a link to the crosstable on the website. Look for photos and more details in our upcoming bulletin!
