With the growing need for energy, environmental protection, and responsible land and resource management, companies and government agencies continue to seek earth sciences expertise. If studying our planet fascinates you, a career in earth sciences can be a rewarding profession. The UND program provides a solid foundation in Geoscience and flexibility for students to focus on related areas of interest.

Planet Earth is at a crucial point in its history. Leaders in the field of earth science will be on the forefront of ensuring its future. Earth scientists combine geology, physics, oceanography, meteorology and astronomy to help better understand nature's forces all around us.

Benefit from a curriculum that weaves in many essential disciplines for a holistic view of natural resources and a broad-based education. If you wish to pursue it, you'll be prepared for further graduate study.

Gain access to facilities and research resources at the Harold Hamm School of Geology & Geological Engineering. We have an extensive collection of geological samples and geoscience testing technologies.

Earth scientists (or geoscientists) will continue to be in high demand as our planet's natural resources become scarcer, while population and energy demands soar. Earth scientists are needed to find solutions to reconcile these two opposing trends.

Our high alumni salaries and job placement rates, with affordable online tuition rates make UND a best-value university for online education. UND's breadth of online programs rivals all other nonprofit universities in the Upper Midwest making UND one of the best online schools in the region.

Your courses will provide a foundation for understanding the function and evolution of the world around us. Key topics include climate change, Earth's water, energy and material resources, natural hazards, the impact of land-use change on environmental health and more. This program culminates in a team-based capstone course that allows you to research and propose solutions for an environmental problem.

Homeschool applicants must meet all general admission requirements for ASU. You may also need to provide additional documentation after you submit your application. If needed, you'll be notified after we receive your transcript.

You can still gain general admission to most online programs at ASU through Earned Admission. Through this pathway, you can demonstrate your ability to succeed at ASU by completing online courses with a 2.75 GPA or higher.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences takes a transdisciplinary approach to education with a vast spectrum of degrees in the social sciences, natural sciences and humanities. We inspire students to be socially aware, critical thinkers and global citizens.

Use our calculator to estimate your full-time or part-time tuition fees for this program prior to any financial aid. Keep in mind that most of our students receive financial aid, which can reduce out-of-pocket costs. Learn more.

Habitable Worlds is an innovative course with a format different from most online courses. It is built around interactive activities with rich adaptive feedback. These are not videos or simple readings and quizzes. Usually they are problem-solving activities through which you will be introduced to key concepts, and master them, in a question-driven 'learn-by-doing' approach. Often they will be designed around game-like simulations that you can manipulate, or virtual field trips that you can explore. In some ways, these activities can feel like a serious game! That's not an accident: that's in fact how the pursuit of science feels to professional scientists.

This course includes a lab and satisfies 4 credit hours toward the SCIT: Scientific Thinking in Natural Sciences General Studies requirement at Arizona State University. It is strongly encouraged that you consult with your institution of choice to determine how these credits will be applied to their degree requirements prior to transferring your credit.

Let's say you're studying natural disasters, but can't tell a tsunami from a hurricane. A tutor can help you research the properties of each storm, explain the differences, and help answer your homework question.

Our online classroom has tools that make getting Earth science help easy. A two-way interactive whiteboard lets you upload or draw diagrams, and our web-sharing tool makes it easy to find online resources. With file-sharing, you can send worksheets and lab reports to your tutor, then work on them together.

The earth sciences minor will give you the knowledge base to make informed decisions on issues that affect exposure to geologic hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, confront increasing demand for scarce earth resources such as water, minerals, and energy and promote environmental sustainability and climate security.

We offer a Bachelor's of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences degree that can be taken on-campus or online. Earth, Society and Environmental Sustainability B.S. students can specialize in environmental consulting, sustainability policy, geographic information science, sustainable business, and more. The online option is available to both current and future students of the University of Illinois. Students new to the University of Illinois who wish to undertake the program apply to the University of Illinois as transfer students. All prior credit earned through the ENSU certificate can be applied to the ESES BS degree if you transfer to the program.

The online degree is the same degree as taken by on-campus students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, only the method of instruction is different. The University of Illinois is a top-ten public institution, and is the flagship University of Illinois. You'll have the same world-class professors, courses, resources and B.S. degree as our 150 on-campus majors. You'd be attending the 2nd oldest university in Illinois, a founding member of the Big Ten Conference. We're considered a Public Ivy; and our undergraduate program is ranked by US World and News as the 45th best program in the country. The University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Graduates from Illinois are recruited from companies across the nation. The ESE degree celebrated its first complete graduating class in May of 2011. Our students have gone on to graduate programs across the country - in Medicine, Law, Biology, Public Affairs, Journalism and more - and careers for organizations large and small, including positions in environmental consulting, business consulting, sustainability management, teaching, wetlands restoration, the Peace Corps and environmental engineering.

The online program is open to students transferring to the University of Illinois. You will need to have at least one year (about 30 credit hours of college credit) of previous work. The only coursework that you need to have taken is composition 1 (or have met this requirement through a sufficiently high ACT score or through AP credit). There are no other specific requirements, although if you are interested in the "Science in the Earth System" concentration (see below), we highly recommend at least a semester of chemistry with lab, and a semester of physics with lab (we don't offer lab courses online, and these are needed for this concentration). Many of our transfer students have an Associates Degree in Arts or in Science, but this is not required. Transfer students have often started Bachelor degrees at other institutions and wish to complete at Illinois - this is perfectly fine!

We deliver the majority of our classes asynchronously - this means that you don't need to log on at a specific time. Depending on the course, there are weekly readings, lectures, lessons, discussion forums, quizzes and/or assignments. Courses may also have final papers, projects and exams. Everything can be done off-campus and in any timezone (even our online exams are remotely proctored and have flexible start times). A very few of our elective major classes have live discussions (with times in the evenings or weekends) but these are not required courses, and if this is an issue you can always take a course that does not have a specific log-on time.

Most of our classes are 8 weeks long. Some classes run for the full length (16 weeks) of Fall and Spring Semesters. All Illinois students are full time, which means at least 24 credit hours a year, which can be taken throughout the year - we offer classes in Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.

The latest academic year cost per credit hour is $416, which includes all fees (although there may be other minor course costs, such as textbooks or exam proctoring). In-state, out-of state, and international students pay the same rate. This means that a standard, 15 credit hour semester costs a little over $6,000. Online students qualify for financial aid - see for information about financial aid at Illinois. Veteran benefits are fully applicable (see for information about veteran services at Illinois).

There are over 60 advanced hours available for the online major, and hundreds more elective and general education options from across the campus. All required courses are offered every two years, and many introductory courses are offered online too.

ARSET offers online and in-person trainings for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Trainings cover a range of datasets, web portals, and analysis tools and their application to air quality, agriculture, disasters, land, and water resource management. Since 2009, the program has reached more than 100,000 participants from 183 countries and more than 17,000 organizations worldwide.
